This is still on for next Thursday, starting about 7:30 or 8pm. Quieter records before 9:00 while the last of the diners finish eating. Got really pissed there last night after I passed the two ABBA lps to Reuben. Was gonna go along to Heroes after all, but then several people I rather like turned up, so I stuck around, got trolleyed, danced (badly) and flirted (also badly!) A bunch of us went on to find another bar open, and ended up in the Lily Langtree (or whatever it's called)! There was a woman djing who Jamie correctly pointed out looked like Germaine Greer (but shorter), so we had a dance to The Birdie Song and many other favourites of the Christmas party crowd. Flirted (even more badly) with yet another woman I barely know. The landlord ended up singing Strange Fruit to us all, and reminiscing about George Best. It was one of those nights. Now we are all hungover! Oh, only just remembered why I started writing this post! I dunno if the Dragon thinks it's in London (though I met a lot of Down From London people there last night), but I recently picked up copies of two different free London-based music & lifestyle magazines there: The Stool Pigeon, which is highly recommended (actually, it was stuffed behind a plant pot, so maybe someone left it by mistake..), and Good For Nothing (the next project of Stuart 'Sleaze Nation' Turnbull), which, um, isn't as highly recommended. Anyway! See you on Thursday. Please?

Yeah, he wasn't in the bar or anything, but I'd brought down a Rubble compilation (that Laura had given me) with them on, more with the intention of playing some Jason Crest, but as Rob Savage, John Redfearn and that lot were there I thought I'd give it a spin. That track in particular sounded great through the bar's speakers, but I'm not sure I'd have played it if he Was around!

Yeah, I'd be happy to dj for you at the Penthouse; that's one of the few venues I've actually djed in before, for Laura. I do feel it's London that's been doing Rosie in. I know she's unlikely ever to move back to Hastings or Bexhill, but I wish she'd get herself somewhere else, hopefully closer to everyone she used to know. We've (mostly) been getting along 'cos we've all maintained a close mutual support network amongst ourselves. I just don't think she'd be able to see that, 'cos she's been gone so long. She's alright with us though, so it'd be good if she felt welcome to come back.

The answer to the London-centric element to the Dragon bar, referred to earlier in this thread, is that Paddy's brother runs another Dragon, on Old Street in London (and they wanna get a Brighton one opened too). So everything you may ever have wondered about the Dragon suddenly makes sense. Reuben's got a dj slot at the London Dragon at some point soon, if anyone wants to head up there and support him. If it all goes wrong, I'll take you to the Foundry, for more Fun With Bill Drummond.

It started off with all the reggae tracks, then briefly moved into motown, which proved too popular with the cougars. By this time Lee had powered up the vaio and was in Peter Bjorn and John land. Was much fun!

Me, Reuben & Maya are all DJing at Tris(Black Tulips)' World Of Benbo club night/'Black Hole' single launch at the Crypt on Fri 10th July - Special sci-fi DJ sets! Benbo (Tris), Pimpernelle (Alexandra) and To The Moon Alice are all playing live too. Result!
I hope you're coming.
Oh yes, there's a special version of Benbo's 'Black Hole' on the current Dizzy Tiger comp too.

I've got my records sorted for tomorrow, but if anyone thinks of anything they'd like to hear that would fit in with the Black Hole theme (outer spacey, sci-fi, timey wimey...) then say so before tomorrow afternoon & I'll try and bring it if I've got it.

Space lab (Kraftwerk), UFO theme, Planet Rock, Planet E (Kid E [I think]), symphony in space (Spiritualized), Black hole sun (moog cookbook version), Humanoid (Stacker), War of the Worlds (the whole LP), Rocket No 9 (Sun Ra), Follow the leader (Eric B & Rakim), etc
I'm happy to write a piece for it if East will accept a submission. Unless Stu is planning on doing something?
I'm not going to review it 'cos I'm billed to do stuff in it, so you're welcome to: probably best just to email & let Sara know in advance that you're planning on writing one though reviews@eastmagazine.co.uk We're heading to Hastings shortly anyway. Remember: early Crypt arrivals gets the Black Hole booklet prepared by i-Candy Arts, featuring a bit of writing by me, amongst other probably better stuff.
Anyone else coming down for this - Michael, Caroline?
I am, and Michael may be, depending on when he finishes work and whether he can ride the crest of the blue-arsed fly busy-ness wave into the weekend. If not, he may just collapse in a twitching heap.
You'll write an ace review Marcus - I wanted to say I'd do it, but I just haven't got the musical vocabulary...
