Here's a project for anyone with plenty of time on their hands: locating internet copies of any of the following pop videos to download -
Bis - Starbright Boy. Used to be available from the Wiiija records site: Dean, Paula and Natasha are amongst the cast of Bis' John Hughes Goes To Rough Trade romp. Actually broadcast on Top Of The Pops 2 too!
The Candys - Queen Of Perfection. I went along to the shoot of this one, down The Crypt. Again, used to be available from their site.
And wasn't Paul in some video for Puressence?
Any other suggestions?

Stick with it, it's very worth seeing if you've not seen it already! Talking of which, Paula will be joining us all for Dean & Jim's Revolver gig later as well. So yeah!

Ok, Mute are making murmurings to a release this year of Throbbing Gristle's Live At The Astoria 2004 dvd: a performance that me, Carrie, Paul and Carolyn all attended (as ticket holders for the cancelled RE-TG event at Camber Sands that year). I'd be suprised if we don't appear in it somewhere, so as soon as it's out and I've got a copy I'll flag it up here. Of course, we may not be apparent at all, but it'll be worth a look anyway (I've got a great couple of Throbbing Gristle reformation cds already, if you're interested, even before the 'comeback' album proper appears in March). Won't bother with a new thread, but I feel like asking: Throbbing Gristle - any opinions?

I think the ones to go for are D.O.A. and 20 Jazz Funk Greats; though of the original albums I only have Heathen Earth. Latterly I have TG-Now and Live At Camber Sands (both www.mute.com exclusives), both from their current comeback. Or there's a couple of decent compilations (Entertainment Through Pain, and A Taste Of TG). Some of our friends may have differing opinions, of course.

It's been online quite a while, but for those of you who've not yet looked, a reminder that Nick's got a film to accompany Rashamon's Windo Loca single online in the downloads section of his www.electricmorningstar.com website. Filmed in Brighton, it shows those flocks of starlings swooping around the West Pier in wintertime: because the pier decayed further, and then suffered a number of fires, between Nick's visits to the UK, it appears that the birds are behaving like locusts, stripping the remaining fixtures and fittings from the pier's infrastructure. By the way, Nick: how come when I went to log-in to the private area of your downloads site (expecting some mp3s) did I find an adopted cyber-duck, that seems to enjoy quacking and eating bread? And why doesn't my log-in work on the fifth set of your photos on the images page (note to everyone else: there's some good photos there anyway)?

Now theres a question! That would be my friend quackers the duck (which is what i call Tuesday the cat), to confuse matters further! I have become more secretive about my musical activities, and feel that while my previous works may have been novel, i can improve on them. If you or anyone want copies of tracks i can send them. I really must update the site also, but i am both busy and lazy. I have to warn you that I have been imbibing a lot of Lou Barlow based groups and hence am becoming very lo-fi and a bit rawk! Though somewhat less introspective.

Here's the video for Puressence's This Feeling (which Paul was in, though you'd need good eyesight and reactions to spot him): youtube.com/watch?v=K_XTey_1y6c

By the way, that is the Willaims Fairey Band adding the Acid Brass version of What Time Is Love? to the 2K clip above, of course, should you wish for a quick taster before this evening's performance. As with the 2K record, the Acid Brass cds were released on Blast First, and are available through www.mute.com (Mute are getting a lot of plugs on these boards!)

I got my 'We Are Bis From Glasgow, Scotland' cd/dvd in Rounder yesterday. The full version of the 'Starbright Boy' video does feature end-credits with a full cast list, which is nice. Mark Rodrigues texted me a couple of weeks ago, as he was excited to recognise Paula & Dean. Mark says he misses 1996, and several people I know have said the same thing: was it really such a good year for music? Paula - any Bis tour/video anecdotes you'd like to reminisce with?

I though 1996 was a rubbish year for music at the time but I'm willing to be converted.

Check the video Mark Richards has just put up on The Crypt's Facebook group of one of the Punk Nights circa Dec '96 - he's tagged Dan and a few others in it, but Paul, Seb, Charlie and Joe Scotland are certainly there too...

hey stu, just seen yr question about any bis related stories and it just reminded me that when dean and i finally arrived back in hastings at about 4 am, with our groovy hair, a policeman stopped us in the street and asked us what we were up to! he didnt believe our story and thought we were up to no good! anyhoo... just got as far as typing 'car' in to google as the beginning as carphone warehouse and was suddenly stopped by seeing 'caroline kennedy' appear as one of the google search options... thats funny i thought... about to have a loook...oh yeah....!

"Now now now, you h-expect me to believe that Teen-C Titan band Bis - as I understand it the first h-unsigned band to appear on that Top Of The Pops variety show - have taken you two long-hairs out on a tour of the provinces in their travelling magical tour van? And your 'orrible h-eighties barnets are the result of a John Hughes tribute pop video in Notting Hill's notorious Rough Trade gramaphone h-emporium? Pull the other one, Miss. Me and the lads at the station are far too busy trying to h-ascertain the current whereabouts of the h-Absent With-Out Leave h-artist Miss Natasha Morris to be wasting precious man-hours on your ludicrous flights on h-indiepop fantasy. We've had a lot of trouble with that Notting Hill mob: what that place needs is a jolly rom-com from that nice Mr Curtis, that'd sort the fellers out... Now run along home, before Superintendent Lung-Leg hears about this..."

I saw it! Well, some of it, anyway - I was over at my Ma's, so didn't see the end. Didn't the woman wanting to adopt have a peculiar-shaped head/hair thing going on? I know that wasn't the point of the programme, but I found it very distracting...! ;D

I got a DVD-R of 9 Lives Of Tymon Dogg from its director Merrill Aldighieri today - Main feature is just under an hour long, and primarily focusses on Tymon playing live in various situations and combinations, including a few Quikening gigs (so you get to see a fair bit of Muz, Jo Brooks and the rest). Also, one of the Extras is a compilation of short clips from Step's wedding day, which is very much a case of Spot The Hastings Musician. If anyone wants to see it I'll bring it over to town soon.

I really like this video of our friends The Dan Markland Band (on Richard's Overhead Wires label) - Just a short compilation of gig/rehearsal/travel moments, but it really makes being young and in a band look like the best idea ever.
