Even Smugglers? Oh, I suppose it's the hill afterwards that's the problem. You could always just listen to the sound drifting upwards again, maybe.

Any sign of this April Rumiko gig in Eastbourne then? And has anyone picked up the new issue of East Magazine over there? Adam was gonna put a Rumiko pic/preview in there.

Yeah it's a Sunday in April at Slaters, some kind of "Under the influence" styled affair. We're just going to get pissed and play our own stuff.

When I bumped into Adam the other day he told me that Rumiko are in the new East Magazine and that he'd managed to put copies in a few places in Hastings as well as Eastbourne (I can't remember which Hastings venues he mentioned although The Crypt rings a bell).

East Magazine has turned up in the Pig in the past...

No sign of East Magazine in The Crypt last night, or The Street, Or The Pig earlier in the week (though that was only my guess), but I'm sure it'll turn up in Eastbourne on Sunday when we go see Rumiko play Slaters (?) that evening...

I couldn't afford to get over for the Eastbourne gig in the end (not helped by my Network Railcard expiring the day before) - di anyone? Michael said it was quiet... Did any of you locate and pick up any issues of East magazine too? I've just contributed to some vox-pop they were doing on Myspace, not very coherently though!

Right, the May issue of East Magazine is now out, and helpfully distributed throughout Hastings (I got my copy in Turners' Off License in the High Street; Revolver, The Anchor etc had copies too). Amongst lots of editorial comment on the Hastings/Bexhill/Eastbourne area (paralleling much of what we've said on these boards) you may also enjoy such delights as: copious Mumm-Ra/Youngplan features & photos (including stuff from their Crypt gig) pp6-8 & 50; an interview with Pete Wilkes p11; a photo of Dean p23; and my Myspace contribution p12. Bargain!

'Indie' Stu McKenzie and Jason 'Deepkiss 720' Williams are promoting some nights soon at Chelsea Corner, Grove Road, Eastbourne, including (on Friday 12th July) Noteherder & McCloud (and others) - which is a duo featuring Geoff from Spirit Of Gravity, so a good opportunity for a catch-up: Michael & Caroline, are you interested?

Just been doing a bit of writing on the Eastbourne band Capital (or capital, as they prefer it written) and had a look at their video for the 7" Bright Lights uk.youtube.com/watch?v=j5dHT3UmBxw - It's quite an advantage living somewhere photogenic when it comes to making your videos, eh? Nice shots on top of Beachy Head, etc. (Btw, I can't remember if I'd mentioned here that we saw the band in an earlier incarnation back at Rocksalts, when they were called Fracture. If I hadn't mentioned it, I have now.)

There's a Late Greats track (from their album) on the covermount CD with the current issue of Artrocker www.artrockermagazine.com if you haven't heard them and, erm, find going down to WHSmith and back easier than just listening to MySpace or something...

Your Friends Are Architects are interviewed in this week's NME - not as part of the magazine's Tips For 2009, but in a Club NME profile on p54. Photo too.

Paula, you might want to read this one: Up & coming comedian Seann Walsh disses Polegate in his Latest7 magazine column. It actually sums up all the smug, reactionary posturing I hate about some Brightonians. I wonder whether he's Brighton born & bred? Seann's actually friends with some of our Brighton comedy friends (he did Lee & Jim's Edinburgh show), so I shouldn't be too rude. But his article has got my back up!

what kind of shite article was that? i dont have any emotional attachment to polegate, my brother used to live there but so what... it was just a completely rubbish and indeed smug, load of crap. i have no connection to the guy stu and even if i did i dont think its wrong to point out to him that 1) he's not big and clever 2) the waitress(?) response of "LT" is cleverer and more funny than his little finger. and anyway, if brightons so great and he's so funny and great why could he only get a job interview in crappy old polegate?

Aahahha, fucking brilliant! I can see it, especially the Lady Diana memorabilia and the curtains...fucking hilarious!! The guys is right, screw Polegate....burn it!! I only had one experience with the place about 10 years ago, when me Josie and Gez "nearly" played there...it was a shithole pub, they decided to pull the gig, and didnt even let US know that it was cancelled. So we had an argument. Then we went to another pub to have a drink, and i heard a regular talking about "fucking foreigners" and "fat slags". So, sorry guys, but I hope the place fucking burns down!

Sounds an odd link-up, but there's bound to be a reason why it happened: Eastbourne's Electric Memory Box (pretty much everyone who'd ever been in Acusis except the singer) have put their first song 'Heroes' up on their MySpace www.myspace.com/electricmemorybox - and the guest singer Amber Anderson is the actress from that (rather irritating) Match.com advert where the man and woman in an antique shop break into a random duet... You know the one www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yyxx-QqbJ3EThe Electric Memory Box song is rather pleasant anyway.

The thing I dislike most about that advert is her sappy fingers all over a lovely vintage Wurlitzer piano

I've just noticed EMB are playing the free, rather informal semi-covers showcase at Brighton's Lucky Voice this Thursday, so I might actually remember to go along.
