People trying to sell me stuff. Have had one phone call (AIG Insurance?) and one bloke at the door (Seeboard, I think...) so far today, and it's only 1.30! Seriously, if you think I'm enough of a numpty to sign up to something I didn't want in the first place just because you've run through your sales patter (or read through the 'exerting slight pressure' portion of your telephone sales script), I'm afraid you're sadly mistaken. Have to say, I hope no-one else calls today, because the next person that tries to sell me stuff unsolicited is going to get a karate chop to the windpipe. I know it's their job and all, but....sheesh.

Dear obnoxious/bordering on aggressive drunk bloke in the post office,
I'm sorry to be so formal, but I didn't catch your name (although I did catch your girlfriend's name, your - not quite as drunk - friend's girlfriends name, and the fact that you appear to have been conducting some kind of relationship with the latter. What a lady of discerning taste she must be...)
Just wanted to thank you for making an already unpleasant long wait in the Post Office that much brighter- nothing cheers me up more mid-afternoon than worrying whether I'm going to get thrown up on, accidentally punched or fallen over on, or abused.
Still, I suppose I should be grateful that you restrained yourself to just making monkey noises once you'd been served, rather than actually flinging your own shit. (Possibly another couple of pints down the line, though...)
To conclude, you're a cunt all the best, and merry christmas!
Lots of love,
Caroline

i know it was a while ago but i want a rant. i hate the fact that people at the crypt said that mistys big adventure was the worst band to have ever played in hastings? what is that all about?

Was just about to post along the lines of "who did what to the who now?", being woefully out of touch with the goings on of the Crypt (and the world!) for the most part.
However, Google is my friend. I can now thoroughly recommend a visit to the website of the band (bloke? not sure) in question, which is a work of genius! There's spaceships and everything...

Indie Stu (It is you isn't it?), don't waste your time booking indie bands at The Crypt, the kids want Rock as their soundtrack to binge drinking. They are fools, everyone knows you aren't binging properly if you aren't listening to country music. Another thing is they really only want to listen to rock that they have heard before. Which means any kind of new music night is always going to be a problem down The Crypt. Hey ho.

I met one of Misty's Big Adventure (or a mate) outside the pub at ATP once, at the record fair. She was flogging 7"s of 'I'm Cool With A Capital 'C'', which I think may have been their debut. I picked it up to look at it, and she offered to play me it on the minidisc-player she had with her. Unfortunately, that made me feel really self-conscious when I put the headphones on, and I didn't actually buy a copy (it felt a bit too My Life Story, when I just wanted to spend my little money on pastoral electronics and tweeness that afternoon). So, what's their current single, the one with Noddy Holder guesting I believe, like? They've gotta be doing something right! Everett True loves them too. Sorry we didn't go (money's often too tight to mention), but it was a good booking - more power to your elbow. And Marcus is right, what do the kids know? Any generation that thinks 'I Write Sins, Not Tragedies' is a good song needs all the homegrown post-Pulp pop-music you can feed it! Really, Kids, The Long Blondes exist for you, and Spearmint are actually still going. Now put down that Dashboard Confessional cd, and move slowly out of Virgin...easy now...

a myspace-based rant:
'America shows a lot of symptoms of an empire in decline, but I guarantee you we will be hilarious on our way down.'
oh yeah? shame on you, you jaded fuck. you're so circumscribed, it's tragic. you idealise punditry; you'd bicker in auschwitz. it's funny that the world exists for americans to fuck and fuck over so that you can have your epiphanic petit fucking mort and realise the grand mort is for everyone else and laugh? i HATE america and americans sometimes, i really, really, really profoundly hate your country sometimes, you goons. i hate your cities designed around cars where no one but the drunk, addicted and homeless can walk from one place to another, i hate the way supposedly sane people drive from one store parking lot to the next, chewing and slurping, i hate how the best possible reaction to fascism is a shrug, i hate the raised eyebrow deathrock grimace that almost everyone smart has to have and learn to like, that salt lick that's killing you and everyone who lives downstream of you. i hate it. why don't you do something? WHY ARE ALL YOU SMART, FUNNY PEOPLE NOT DOING ANNNNNNNNNNYTHINGGGGGGGG about your social fabric or how it impacts on everyone else's? i hate it from all directions - i hate that the people who are trying, the people who are teaching other people to read, the people organising unions, the people agitating for health care, the people fighting against border fascism, aren't the smart funny people who love art, how nobody dares drop the 'they can't make me stop saying n****r because they can't make me care about black people dying' bullshit posturing unless their, only social, bravery exceeds their repressed sense of SHAME - i hate it. i hate it. there isn't a way i can find that i don't hate it. please god stop ruling the fucking world and finding it funny that you're not even trying.

Hello hello
My trip was wonderful, thanks. I fucking LOOOOOOOOOOOVE New Orleans. Oh that reminds me - I know Hastings is in a reception greyspot, but y'all really should watch Spike Lee's doc about the Katrina aftermath, which is on BBC4 next Monday and Tuesday, if you possibly can. For those who can't, I'm recording it on my laptop, and though I can't promise how great the quality will be for such a big file, I can thereafter render and burn DVD's. So let me know if you want it - I can only really promise two at the most because it's so timeconsuming and I'm very busy and important.

Mouse I talked to the UNISON convenor in charge of tribunals, etc, and she said she would take a call from you if you wanted some advice, even though you're not a UNISON member. I have her number at work - I'll get it for you over the next couple of days.
How are you and the bump?

How far did your doctor go into rates of ferrate absorption with you? Because if she didn't, I might be able to (long-term aplastic anaemic speaking).
