Hiya, just so everyone knows, here's the main terms of use www.proboards.com get board hosters to sign up to: User's content must comply in a manner consistent with any and all applicable laws of the State of California and the US Federal Government. User's web site may not contain content promoting the use of illegal drugs, alcohol, sex, pornography, nudity, or any other form of adult content, profanity, hate, "spam," fraud, racism, mlm, pyramid schemes, or promote any illegal activity. User's message board and Web site must be in English. Make of that what you will: all I'd say as board administrator is I'm sure UK and US law protects freedom of speech, just don't behave like idiots. Ta. Incidentally, these message boards now form one wing of The Hastings And Rother Music Archive (DTMC40), see the entry in the Dizzy Tiger catalogue boards for more information.

Cheers for that, looks like this is all working ok, though I had to paste Oliva's Flesh Happening post in myself. It's all a bit unfamiliar to start with! When posting a thread or reply, it looks like that icon of a picture in a frame (in the Add Tags box, bottom row, 4th from left) is the one to use to put your photos in with. I'll try and work out any other queries if they come up. See you soon, x

Yeah - left it a bit late due to drunken weddingness at the weekend but I've got a posting fever going on now!!!
Just to let you know Stu - it seems to be working....

Ok, I've disabled the swear-word filter, and readjusted the clock from Eastern Standard Time to Greenwich Mean Time, so hopefully things will make a bit more sense from now on. I'm still monitoring the board of course (not all the time, obviously, not on pay-as-you-go!) but I don't expect I'll have to faff with anyone's postings. Later, evil robot dudes.

Aah, that's what the sticky icon does! I've just removed the Guestbook page from the main site, 'cos all this time I'd not installed it properly. The message boards are a much better concept anyway. (For an example of how a guest book would have worked, visit Regular John's site www.regularjohn.co.uk now back online). I also removed the Catalogue page, because I didn't even remember adding it to the site (I might have been drunk), which was why it never took you anywhere. Duh.

In case passing-Guests are wondering, the Unsolicited Rubbish board is where we're shifting the spam to (it appears that it is possible to spam a message board, although we wish you wouldn't). Hopefully, by turning that part of the board into a members-only area, random electronic members of the public won't be able to add more spam to it, and the rest of us can just hurl abuse in that direction. And if a spammer does decide to become a member in order to post more spam...we bar them! Fair?

I've just added another board, called The Archive, that's gonna be used for storing old bits and pieces of text from before we got these boards sorted out (ie online content, newspaper features, fanzine articles etc). As with the Unsolicited Rubbish board, it's been set so that it's just me who adds the threads (mainly so everyone carries on using the General Board and doesn't get confused), though anyone (member or not) will be able to post replies and comments to this one. It'll probably remain blank for a while, 'til I can be bothered to fish some stuff out the (physical, cardboard box) archive, but (as I've said before) any suggestions or requests for older stuff to go up on it would be welcomed.

As I found when posting up the Duplo letters in the Archive yesterday, there is an upper-limit for how long your posts can be (somewhere about 25,000 characters, I think). I don't think it's likely anyone is gonna write that amount, but if you do have a short story on the go or something, you may find you have to break it down into chapters, for instance. As if!

Hmm, it did occur to me before I got in the bath earlier that as I've set up couple of sub-boards here (The Archive and the Unsolicited Rubbish ones), there's not any reason why I shouldn't be able to set up sub-boards for particular individuals to use as well. It could well over-complicate things, of course (and obviously peple like Rashamon and Bonj have their own sites and boards anyway), but if anyone really does want to get some practice in at maintaining their own subsection of these pages, then we'll have a chat about the feasability of it. I can alter the parameters of who is allowed to post on the various sub-boards (anyone, or just members), and can add certain members' names as moderators for the sub-boards too. It really just depends on whether anyone wants to tend to a little plot of cyberspace here, but it seems like a democratic thing to offer at least.

(After a few days of inactivity on this subject:) As there's now plenty of threads here where people can criticise the processes of these boards, I think we're all ok still? All meet up for a drink in a week or two? Hope so. I'm off to bed now. x

Grrr, just had to delete more bloody spam-posts. Don't like the way they seem to freeze posts higher up the boards than they should be, and return again in the same place they were deleted a week ago (Edited: just experimented and found that this positioning of the posts is a feature of the boards anyway, not caused by the spam: the board registers when a thread has been added & subtracted to, and doesn't automatically drop a thread down to the last visible update) Don't click on the spam-links, whatever they are!

As regular visitors to the boards should've noted, there's now a character-identification thing for posters who aren't logged-in (Proboards seem to have added this feature themselves, to cut-down on the sort of spam mentioned above). I know it's a little bit more hassle, but at least we're not dealing with a load of dodgy spam now. You'll just have to put up with it, or remember to log in (if you're registered).

'Cos they can disappear down the page so quick, I've moved all the Polls we've had running onto their own sub-board. I think it's set so that anyone can add comments to a poll, but Proboards is already arranged so that you have to be logged in to cast a vote or start a new poll. Hope that makes some sense to everyone. x

Now that Proboards have fixed it so that we can't be spammed, I'll probably just move the whole Unsolicited Crap board entries back onto these main boards. So, if you actually notice that board has gone, you'll at least know where to fnd the old threads (not that there's much to them...)
[nb: I've now put them in The Archive board. This does mean that everyone, including non-members, can read them now, at least.]

As we've pretty-much lost the old Faithweb site, I've just added a new board for putting up details of all the stuff we've put out on Dizzy Tiger - Only the moderators (ie. me) can create posts there, but everyone will be able to reply to them
I've also just noticed that as well as being able to create password-protected boards (we have none at present though) we can make totally hidden boards - secret unless you know the URL...

I'll edit it when I've got time, but I've just managed to cut&paste all the text from the old Faithweb site into the Archive threads here. Not put the pictures in, but the captions are still there.

I believe it's usually recommended to Hyperlink to other websites, rather than just cutting & pasting the URLs (as I've been doing for years) - If you wish to do so, the form for these boards is to use and - just insert the full URL you wish to link to within the 1st set of square brackets, directly after the = symbol (including the http:// prefix), and your automatically-highlighted text (ie the bit you wish people to click on) between both sets of square brackets, eg [] HERE [], [] i>Player [] etc.
