Going back through old newspaper clippings and message board posts, I turned up references to a bunch of stuff we were planning to release on Dizzy Tiger at one time or another, most of which I'd completely forgotten about. So here is the incomplete, alphabetical, great (not great) story-so-far list of Ones That Got Away (the asterisked ones I did assign catalogue numbers to, the rest never even got that far)...
- Billy & The Fingers - Album box set. We had a plan with Neil to reissue the first few Billy & The Fingers albums as a CD box set but that was perhaps too ambitious to come off in the end.
- Cat Food* - The final EP. Three tracks recorded in 2000 and intended to sit in the vaults until 2015, by which point putting out a cassette of them was more trouble than it was worth.
- Circus Toe* - 'Sounds Like A Headache Only Less Melodic' EP. I've still got the CD demo of this. Was either going to be a standalone release or appear as part of the fourth Cassette Pair series with Deepkiss720.
- The Crayons - single. Was going to be part of the 3" CD-R singles series that was abandoned after the first one by Rashamon caused me too many technical problems.
- Deano Adams - Album. We had agreed to get Deano to do solo recordings of some of his backlog of unrecorded Ital Jets and Donkey Kong songs, long before he eventually did that himself on the 'Lost Songs And Monkey Bikes' CD.
- Deepkiss720* - split cassette with Circus Toe. Jase gave us a one-track, 30-minute noise piece for the split tape series but we hung on dithering too long and he changed his mind before it appeared.
- Donkey Kong Jr* - Live At Smugglers. Live album, I did prepare some tapes of this. Marcus has subsequently digitised the gig recording, so Rumiko Jr might release it somehow one day, possibly.
- Ellen Cherry - Live At Ridding Festival. Their six-song set was taped (I've still got it) and was going to come out as a cassette but never did.
- The Flesh Happening - single. This was going to happen at some point but I think the band splitting up put the knockers on that.
- The Grey Forest - album. Was going to be one of my solo tapes under a new name, which I started recording stuff for but gave up on when inspiration and talent once again failed to strike.
- The Ital Jets - Live compilation album. Again, I did prepare tapes of this, featuring recordings from gigs at two different Ridding Festivals, The Crypt and Harper's. Sound quality was an issue.
- The Miscreants* - Crap Last Tapes. Box-set, planned in an edition of one, of spoken-word things from Paul. It's entirely possible he still made it and kept it a secret though.
- Red Crayon Spider Vs Benbo* - Split remix single, was going to be a 7" at one point, ended up released online by Tris from Benbo instead.
- Technically Men - EP. Me and Del were once talking about releasing an EP from this Lo-Fidelity Allstars offshoot, who did put out an album and a digital single themselves, although I can't remember if this was before or after. Either way, never happened.
- Tigersnack* - EP or album. Fox tried to get a release of their solo songs ready for us, which would've been an EP or an album depending on how many recordings they were happy with. I've still got a couple of the CD-R demos (although one of them has since decayed into un-listenability) but it never achieved fruition.
So there you go. Some of these exist, some never got taped, but you can never quite rule out these things surfacing in the future, I guess. And if I've ever previously agreed to put something of yours out then forgotten all about it, do remind me...
