A Dizzy Tiger Manuscript Co audio-visual publication.
A YouTube playlist element of the Story is available here
Bandcamp release forthcoming.
The Legendary Duplo File (i.e. my old folder of used and unused band artwork, posters, tape inserts, lyrics and other bits and pieces) contains plenty of the ideas we had for releases on our Hamster On A Turntable label (later, Coastline Records) in the early 90s, even though the only thing we ever put out credited fully to that label was Duplo's Bedhead EP tape (my first, hand-written run of Cat Food postcards was given an "H.O.A.T." label designation, however).
Out of interest, from various bits of paper, here's a few of those once briefly planned releases:
From a Hamster On A Turntable poster by Paul: "...a 1-2 tracked flexi-disc... featuring a fab/groovy new band." (i.e. Duplo)
Quality Socks (Hamster On A Turntable Productions, TURN 1). Design sketch by me (the fanzine eventually appeared in 1999). "Features magazine & 4-track cassette. Ltd ed of 100. No 001. Cost "2:00p". Cassette EP track-listing on the sketch: 4D Special Agent - 'Real Time' / Some Wankers - 'Blue Monday' / Rancid Sheep - 'Death Comes To Toytown' / Michael And His Keyboards (or just 'Synths') - 'Go Bleep'. A sketch from a little later renames Michael's project as Minimus-3.
Hamster On A Turntable newsletter (STER 1), typed draft only, by me. "Watch out for "Quality Socks" (STER 2)"
"STER 1/2. HAMSTER ON A TURNTABLE PLANNING SHEET" (typed by me and handwritten by Paul ideas sheet). Includes the following "possible Hamster on a Turntable releases" discography (certainly influenced by us reading Record Collector magazine, especially its then-ongoing Collectable Indie Singles guide) -
STER 1 Free Newsletter (draft as mentioned above). Projected release date August 91.
STER 2 Quality Socks (cassette and magazine as described above). '100 only'. Suggested for both October 91 or 15th Sep 91.
STER 3 Minimus-3 - "DJ-only white-label 12" single". January 92. 'V. limited pressing'
STER 4 4D Special Agent - "12" EP p/s plus insert". '500 copies' (my artwork sketch includes the title 'Bedhead EP')
STER 5 Rancid Sheep - "7" EP compilation in gatefold p/s". '250 only'.
STER 6 Some Wankers - "10" flexi with card backing and inserts". 'V. limited, mail order only'
STER 7 Frazer Hans - "10" mini-LP p/s". '500 copies'. (nb. crossed out)
STER 8 4D Special Agent - "12" EP p/s plus insert". '1000 copies'.
STER 9 Minimus-3 - "12" EP p/s re-issue of STER 4 with additional tracks". '1000 copies'.
STER 10 Various - "LP/cassette compilation of rare and unreleased tracks, p/s plus booklet." (mentions 4D Special Agent, Minimus-3, Rancid Sheep, Some Wankers and, again crossed out, Frazer Hans). My design sketch includes the crossed out title 'Didn't They Do Well?' and suggests the track-listing as picking from the preceding releases "+ unreleased."
STER 11 4D Special Agent - "12" EP p/s plus insert"
7" artwork, two sleeve dummies created by me, both a handwritten and a typed one: Big Diagram - 'Shift' E.P. Side One: Dumbfound 3'46, Infinity Drive 4'07. Side Two: Real Time 4'48, Sense Of Occasion 2'59. STER 2, 1991.
Hand-drawn poster by Paul: "Due to lack of public demand... Duplo will not be releasing a live video..." On the reverse: "IMPORTANT NOTICE! A slight change has been made to the free DUPLO ep. It will now contain the tracks Bedhead, Dumbfound and Sense Of Occasion."
[After the release of the Bedhead EP: ]
Duplo vinyl single: A 'Dumbfound' / B 'Bedhead' ("Initial pressing of 200"). Two typed design sketches by me, one giving the catalogue number as Ster 2.
Much later:
STER 11 Duplo - 'Don't Get So Excited' (Coastline Records). "24 tracks, 2xLP & insert". My design sketch. Overleaf, mine and Paul's suggested track-listing runs to 25 tracks. ("25 X Duplo. 1990 - 1994"). Another of my track-lists dates the cut-off at 1993 and runs to 24 tracks with 'Don't Get So Excited' included but unlisted. Another sheet imagines a release of the full 8-song Duplo concert from which the 4 Bedhead EP songs were drawn as "Double Bedhead".
