Hey, wasn't it great when they... just kidding, Stu. (Thread to be continued in earnest when our beloved leader has viewed and digested.) In the interim, yay or nay, board dwellers? It's a hearty yay from us....

I can wait 'til Wednesday! Heard John Barrowman on Radio 1 the other day, referring to potential fans of Torchwood as "Woodies". Whatever could he mean..?

Why the silence on Torchwood, Mr Stu? Am finding it a little unsettling...

'Cos I didn't see it 'til Thursday evening, and have been in London since then! Will post more later, but my favourite bit was definitely the pub fight to 'We Are The Pipettes'!

Ooh, that was particularly grisly last night! How many shots of the dead surgeon did we need? Bloody tense though. Bit Metropolis, bit Bride Of Frankenstein.
Also: 1st episode - Always good to see someone you've been led to believe (cf: the Radio Times that week) will be a regular character, killed-off at the start. 2nd episode - 5 minutes of lesbian snogging, followed by "Oh no, you have to be a man!" Gratuitous! But I liked that they didn't make the teenage woman particularly glamorous or sexy (as in guff like 'Species') 3rd episode - Didn't make a hell of a lot of sense really: I wish they'd done more with the evacuee etc. Still, a bit ghostly.
Who's still watching it then? Next week looks John Wyndham -tastic.

Must admit I've not been completely won over by the show so far. Watch out for the Toby Whithouse episode (I think its 7) - very lovely man doing the new act comedy circuit in Brighton.
He told me writing lines for K9 was the hardest bit in Dr Who.

Hmm, didn't seem like they were working with a complete script last night. I found it quite disappointing, but then I was watching it sober for a change. The only bit that made me jump was when the woman started speaking with a scary alien voice (that, incidentally, had disappeared as soon as she actually changed into an alien...)

I agree, that was one of the cleverer ones they've done, with a whole lot of twists. Dunno if the plot would stand-up to too much scrutiny (the 'Pilgrim' stuff was a bit brushed-by), but it swept you along. But what was the title of the episode, 'They Keep Killing Suzie'? That's a precis, not a title! Almost a Friends title, in fact.

I was just about to ask if anyone videoed last week's episode (the car-crash/ghost one) 'cos I missed it when I was watching Dean at Le Pattie Cafe, but as soon as I started typing the sentence I realised I missed last night's as well (through going down Smugglers for Rumiko & the John...) Bollocks, I was doing so well.

omg!!!!!!!!!! we (just tom and i, barney has gone home) watched the sarah jane adventures and it was so much better than torchwood. better script, acting, depth to characters, everything. and it wasn't toooo dumbed down for the kids, although the story did revolve around aliens in fizzy pop. but it was really good........and they managed to fit in the line '...if that's your mum then you need to go on jeremy kyle....' and everyone knows there's no beating a good jeremy kyle joke.

Definate Sunny Delight/Smithkline-Beecham attack. Caroline detected misogyny on the writers' part, in Sarah-Jane's childlessness & the factory-owner being female, but I rather think this is missing the wood by looking at the trees.

Torchwood finale then? Big 'Yay!' from me. First half, very Sapphire & Steel. Second half overdid the Captain Jack's resurrection bit, but that 500ft demon was great (even through a black&white snowstorm on my portable). Vworp-Vworp!

I thought they overdid everything. But I did think the old man was pretty scary....
None of it made very much sense - was it just everything pre riff opening that went back to normal? Why weren't the team affected?

I'm not gonna read Caroline's other 'Torchwood' thread, as Carolyn says it contains spoilers (I was watching 'Help!' on BBC4 this evening instead). Maybe tomorrow!

I dispute the fact that it was a spoiler (which I would define as the revelation of some crucial plot point that 'spoils' the show for you, if you know it ahead of time...) - it was an observation regarding a nice (and incidental to the plot) touch. But I can't properly argue my case without 'spoiling' some more, so respond at your leisure, after you've watched it...

I think Stu sees any mention of things that happen on Doctor Who or related as Spoilers hence my advice for him to steer clear. We may well watch it tonight anyhow on the amazing IPlayer (I don't work for BBC - promise).

Eh...Michael agreed with the spoileryness of my observation, so I shall hush my mouth until everyone's up to speed...* (Stu- I couldn't find a Torchwood thread last night, hence starting a new one. Once you've seen it, and can safely expose yourself to my shocking revelation, could you transfer it to this one, or delete it, or summat, with your mod superpowers, please?) *except to observe that despite the fact that the man is sex on legs, James Marsters has an unfortunate helmety hairdo which appears to have followed him from 'Buffy' into this. But I can forgive him...

Suprisingly, there doesn't appear to be an Administrator option of merging threads on these boards, so I'll probably just leave it up, or lock it if you prefer.

I'm not impressed by the Home Office's computer security in last night's Torchwood, but I do like their passwords.
What with the location of the psychiatric hospital, RTD must've been spending a lot of time in East Sussex recently (or that's just where his AA Road Atlas fell open in the script meeting).

Liking the very Radiophonic noises the 4-5-6 are making in Torchwood - scary! "We Want A Pony"
