Dedicated to those short online headlines from the various homepages (AOL, Yahoo, et al) that, in a few months time, will make no sense whatsoever. So, from AOL today:
Puppies 'not mutant kittens'

Again from AOL, most-sensitive health-story of the month:
Fat Brits face cancer death.
(Nice. All animal species face cancer, you know)

"... I mean, I don't sign my dead cat up to bogus professional organisations for the good of my health, you know."
Also:
"...despite her litigiousness, her illegal medicinal products, her ropey qualifications, her abusiveness, despite her making the wounded and obese cry on television, despite her apparently misunderstanding some of the most basic aspects of GCSE biology, while doling out "scientific" advice in a white coat, despite her farcical "academic" work, despite the unpleasantness of the food she endorses..."
T'is true, and also funny. Awful Poo Lady indeed.

I'm so glad she's finally been au-contraired. She talks such rubbish and is horribly rude to fat people. She activates my superhero knickers on sight.

I'll pop by Jeffrey Holland & Syd Barrett's later to see if she'd still endorsing them, or whether they've reverted to Kim Wilde for safety's sake. Oh, you know that Health magazine you can buy instore there? They had the worst headline the other day:
'From Mummy And Daddy, to RED HOT LOVERS!'
Wrong on so many levels...

they have the equally awful worral thompson this week.
i like the pleasure taken by the person writing the mckeith article, almost like ian hislops never-ending delight in being allowed to refer to jeffrey archer as 'convicted liar'. did anyone bother with bbc2s the verdict last night. i found the idea too wrong on too many levels, i would like to hear it was as awful and trivialising(?) as i expected.

On Yahoo currently:
"Lloyd Webber admits he's Mallett mastermind"
I don't even want to read the story, the headline alone is perfect enough!

It may be a subtle EMI marketing scam, but this 11 minute Beatles out-take is going up and down all over the net with some regularity. Apparently genuine, it's an out-take of Revolution - but starting as Revolution 1 and ending as Revolution 9. Worth a listen at any rate, especially if anyone's planning on doing Beatles Day this year.

...And in the 10 minutes it took to listen to that, EMI enforced it's removal from that YouTube user. Seek and you shall find and all that though.

I feel like some tiny part of my world has died:
Researching Sussex venues, I can find no evidence that The Shelley Arms, Nutley, still exists.
Although interestingly, according to Wikipedia, Neil Gaiman lived in Nutley back in the day (late 80s/early 90s) and set Coraline in his house there.

It was converted into flats over 10 years ago. Site of some early gigs for me and my friends and my first introduction to DC style hardcore done Tunbridge Wells style. A Sussex live venue legend, growing up nearby it was rumoured that The Cure were regular visitors in the late 70's and that they had booked The Stone Roses in the mid 80's before anyone had heard of them (I have no evidence as to the veracity of the latter).

A quick Google for the Shelley Arms reveals many a band revealing "our first gig was at The Shelley Arms" and it being a staple for working bands like The Groundhogs (I'm pretty sure I saw them a couple of times there as well as The Ravenswood, Sharpthorne) as well as better known acts like Cutting Crew (went to my school), Levellers, UK Subs etc.
In retrospect I feel quite fortunate that between the 101 Club at The Dorset Arms (Daisy Chainsaw destroying the ceiling being a good memory), The Ravenswood, Shelley Arms and The Wiremill I was quite well served for pub-rock in my formative years. Now all sadly either closed, gastro-pubs or wedding venue type places. Cue rant about how we used to make our own entertainment in the old days...

Also regulars to The Shelley Arms - Dumpy's Rusty Nuts!
If only Bum Gravy played there we would have collected the set of Mr Agreeable pub-rock acts.

Billy Gorilla on Leigh Dyer's bike, in the Metro newspaper at the weekend. EDIT: Actually, I just assumed it was Leigh's bike 'cos of all the metalwork, maybe Bill built it himself? There's another photo of him on it at Hastings Old Town Carnival on the East site here.
