With both the Concorde 2 and Riki Tik's gigs finishing in the early evening, I can't get over to Brighton after work in time to see any of them. Just hope it goes well for everyone, have fun!

It's a Friday, so I'd probably have to get the last train back for work, but... maybe. At least the Corn Exchange is near the station!

thats ok, maybe i could get the train back with you............and umm, stay at yr house!!!! (please) basically the gig is on the same day as a study day in london that i can probably negotiate the time off for, though i dont really want to do it to be honest, however if i can tie it in with a trip back to see you guys its more worthwhile... and the gig does look a blinder, otherwise my next trip back will be probably march or more likely may. which is why im fussing about it as i need to organise travel , because as im sure you are aware its actually quicker and cheaper to go on a cruise or something than go to hastings from here unless you can book it 20 years in advance......

No probs, you're welcome! Even if Kirsty & I have to move, it still won't be 'til later than that date (we can hang-on 'til the New Year here we reckon); and, again, if we did have to have moved by then, it'd still be nearby... See you soon!

Free Brighton Live gigs apparently include:
Mon 24th Sep: Doll & The Kicks/The Great Danger/This Project, Water Margin 8:30pm.
on the first day; and at the end of the week:
Sat 29th Sep: 'The Best of Brighton Live', Cocncorde 2, 12-7pm (including Rashamon - disputed by Lee - and also Jason Pegg, Peggy Sue & The Pirates, many others...)
Check the listings online, and see if you fancy any others, all free! Come over!

The Flesh Happening gig for Brighton Live on Friday 28th, at the Watermargin on Middle Street, will now be performed by The Flesh Machine - Oliva on vocals, Del Vegas on instrumentation. I volunteered my musical services to Oliva too, but he kept omitting to mention that in his replies to me, peculiarly...
It's also Dean's birthday gig at Smugglers that day too, though, and The Gruesome Twosome (Reuben & Jimmy) djing at the Brass Monkey, so plenty of Hastings options otherwise.

is anyone up for sweet sweet lies at the concorde this sunday?

performed by The Flesh Machine - Oliva on vocals, Del Vegas on instrumentation. Re-reading Oliva's text, he may just have named Del himself as The Flesh Machine for the evening... Dunno about Sweet Sweet Lies this Sunday, but I'm sure I saw they had 1 or 2 free gigs next week, so I may catch them later on. I'm still hoping to get time online to put up a list of which Brighton Live gigs I'm expecting to get along to - there's at least one band every day I'd like to catch.

On, Myspace Bulletin clarification from Oliva:
As The Flesh Happening will not be playing until the release of their debut album in March, any gigs will be filled by The Flesh Machine (Oliva Spleen and Del Vegas).
The Flesh Machine play the same Flesh Happening songs you know and hate, but remixed and reinvented to create a sonic barrage to rival the original four piece!
The first Flesh Machine gig will be headlining for Brighton Live, a FREE gig at Water Margin (formally Sumo) on Middle Street Brighton on Friday 28th September.
We're on at 22:00hrs so come sooner to avoid disappointment.
It will be such JOY! xxx

Yeah, I heard Gulliver's band had departed en masse. Well, they were never really the same calibre of gender terrorist as Gulliver, anyway. Mind you, neither is Del.
Hope it goes well for him.

Ok, here's our possible route through Brighton Live next week...
Mon 24th Sep:
David Thomas (Pere Ubu) & Max O'Brien, Carousel, Brighton beach (no time given). This Project, Water Margin, 8:30pm. The Bobby McGees, Audio, 9pm. (Hamilton Yarns at Sanctuary Cella 9:15pm would be good, but it's too far in the wrong direction)
Tue 25th Sep:
MC Cashback, The Albert, 9:15pm. -A+M (Miles' current duo), Red Roaster, 10pm.
Wed 26th Sep:
The Tenderfoot, Hanbury Club, 8:30pm. The Sticks, The Albert, 9:15pm The Poppycocks, The Hope, 10pm.
Thu 27th Sep:
Sweet Sweet Lies/Chris Difford (Squeeze), The Albert, 12pm/1pm.
Fri 28th Sep:
The Flesh Machine (nee Happening), Water Margin, 10pm.
Sat 29th Sep:
Best of Brighton Live, Concorde 2, 12-7pm (inc. Jason Pegg (Clearlake), possibly Rashamon) Spirit Of Gravity showcase, Ju Ju clothes shop (as seen on 'Mary, Queen Of Shops'...), North Laine, 6pm. (definitely inc. Rashamon)
...and probably other stuff besides... Anyone else?

Wed 26th Sep: The Tenderfoot, Hanbury Club, 8:30pm. The Sticks, The Albert, 9:15pm The Poppycocks, The Hope, 10pm. It's been pointed out that getting quickly from the Hanbury to the Albert on foot is physically impossible, so probably scratch The Tenderfoot... Incidentally, on the final Sunday of that week (30th Sep), and not as part of Brighton Live, there's a benefit event (testicular cancer...) at The Freebutt with The Pipetttes downstairs, and Monster Bobby and others upstairs in the Penthouse - the downstairs bit is quite pricey, but the upstairs isn't, so it might be a good way to finish the week. www.tacheback.com

This Project, Static Crash, Diamond Family Archive, We Are Snazzy, MC Cashback, Shrag, The Don Bradmans, Ack Ack Ack, The Sticks, Peggy Sue & The Pirates, The Poppycocks, Sweet Sweet Lies, Chris Difford, Peepholes, Transformer, two guys with vibraphones, Jacob's Stories, Power Up, MC Fashion, The Flesh Machine, Conrad Vingoe, Joe Woodman, Flick, The Blueskies, Rup, Maura Kincaid, The Miserable Rich, The X-Certs, Rashamon, Floors & Walls, Hot Roddy, Terror Wogan, The Deal Was For The Diamond, Dacsha, Pictures, Steal Back Your Life...
...Y'all really missed-out! Admittedly, some of the above named acts were amongst the worst gigs I've ever seen, but mostly the standard was really high... More details to follow from me or Carolyn in the week, I expect.
Maybe next year, eh?

Brighton Live was much much fun We took the week off and it was well worth it. It could all (except for Fri Lunch and, for Stu, Sat) be done whilst working but it was a much more relaxed way of doing it. Got to see some really great bands. The Sticks were fantastic (and hot - even in long johns ). Peepholes were fun, although couldn't play / sing / have any awareness of timing - glad they got a good crown reaction. Static Crash and Diamond Family Archive were both lovely to listen to - shame about the coked up wankers in the crown. I'd never seen The Flesh Happening live, so that was a real treat. Worked well with Del accompanying, although the dolls face mask was a bit disturbing. I was a little bit disappointed at how tame it was though... no fluids thrown into the crown. Maybe next time. Stood near the front as well... Saw Sweet Sweet Lies again. Alfie - I wasn't too taken with them that night you all played down Jooglebery, but I liked them this time. There was an air of Dear Britch about their performance. Watching Lee playing in the main room in Concorde 2 was fun, shame the rest of the audience didn't notice. I wasn't going to mention it but the worse act (and I know it is not nice to point and laugh, but love, you really should change direction) was a woman, who played a short while before Lee at Concorde 2. I'm sure Stu can phrase it more eloquently, but basically she was so bad she made me snort lemonade out through my nose. One of her tracks started with the line 'My bandaged hands scrape your metal face' - I had to leave the room. The absolute highlight however, had to be Terror Wogan. Hopefully there will be a YouTube link at some point so we can share the magic of the crazy mouse and his atari playing in a shop window.

Incidentally, the VW Bug-fest outside the Concorde 2 on Saturday (whilst Lee etc were playing) was curious. You'd think that with the Volkswagen company's roots in the Third Reich, that VW clubs would shy-away from using Nazi imagery. But no, there were Iron Crosses and Eagles everywhere, hmm.

Thanks for that, I don't know if anybody managed to get anything on their phone, but none of us got it together to even take a still camera, let alone record actual moving footage. I've got the sound recorded though, and Bartosz (Polish graphics whizz) is threatening to base a DVD of his graphics around it. The recordings of rashamon and Hot Roddy turned out nice too. If anyone has got pictures, please let me know! Terr.

I took a couple of pictures of Lee, but the public in general were tasking loads of still and moving photos of all three acts on their phones & cameras. There were a couple of more professional-looking photographers there too at times, so I'm sure something will turn up! If I spot anything online, I'll notify you through the SOG boards or something.
