Some of us were down the FILO on Friday, and part of the conversation involved "Whatever happened to the Go4Tune relaunch?" (Go4Tune being a local listings and news free mag from a year or so back). Curiously, as we were discussing this, it turns out another new mag seems to have been running off the presses at that very moment, 'cos I've just picked-up The Hastings Trawler magazine. I initially thought this was the new version of Go4Tune (apologies if my earlier version of this post got anyone confused this afternoon), but I think it's actually by an entirely new and independent set of writers and publishers. The Hastings Trawler is based in, and available from, Boulevard Books in George Street in the Old Town (somewhere between the Royal Albion and Revolver bars), and Issue 1 is £1.50. Although the listings/music side of things isn't covered, it's worth picking up for the other articles: including a similar style of civic gossip/criticism to Go4Tune, and longer features (it's in a well-designed A4 format) by people like (local historian) Steve Peak (in this issue tackling both Tressell, and the history of the local press). I'd lent people my copy, but I think it's more worthwhile trotting down there, buying one for yourself and being encouraging: I think they're onto something potentially very good with this magazine.

oh, thank you stu for the detailed description of the hastings trawler, my initial thought was that it was a large-ish fishing boat that trawlers around scraping stuff off the floor of hastings.... [shivers] i think you will agree the this would not be a pretty sight!!!

Ugh, yeah, the only thing I've ever scraped off the ground in Hastings has been Deano!

Picked up 2nd issue in Revolver earlier, whilst down there for Christa's birthday celebrations. Superb front cover painting of Crowley by Rob Sample, to illustrate good article on the man by David Arnold (whose bands I've not really liked, but who does email with stuff from time to time, so I maybe ought to flag-up his sites). Any Crowley thoughts?
