www.beachdownfestival.com/According to our friends who went this year, Beachdown (up near Devil's Dyke) was generally a lot of fun (Charlie got to see A Certain Ratio, lucky boy) and the organisation wasn't half as bad as I feared it would be. They've started selling early tickets for next year's event (29th-31st Aug) - the line-up so far is still rather Gilles Peterson, but The Fall are in there...

That sounds pretty interesting, Mr Stu... My creeping horror of festival toilets and slight dislike of camping is now doing battle with "ooh, good bands/people/pretty scenery/close and cheap(ish) festival". Will let you know which side wins out... (Have signed up to the mailing list, so will await new additions to the line-up with interest...)

I'm probably up for going next year. I steered a lot about this earlier in the year, but with the right line up I'll defo be up for a local festival. Watch this space I guess!

More line up additions already Email that came round today from Beachdown organisers: Dear All A small anti-Beachdown group made up of principally a local Fulking Parish Councillor and his sister-in-law Mid-Sussex District Councillor have taken it upon themselves to try and mobilise opposition to Beachdown 2009 despite all fears about their principal complaints of (a) traffic disruption in 2008 being non-existent (b) any damage whatsoever being made to the Sussex Downs and its wildlife and (c) noise pollution to local villages having had no basis in fact during and after the 2008 event which has been deemed a massive success by all who attended and performed. Beachdown is a local Festival put on by and for local people. Every food concession was from Brighton and Sussex, Brighton bands, cabaret acts, staff and suppliers were sourced from Brighton and Sussex and we as organisers did everything in our power to put on the kind of event that we feel was missing from the Brighton music scene. There is a piece in todays Argus which airs the anti-Beachdown viewpoint and I was wondering if you could spare the time to email letters@theargus.co.uk a personal experience email from your own perspectives to demonstrate the level of support that Beachdown has. We are very grateful for your support and look forward to announcing our full line-up in early 2009 (and trust me there are some great acts on there!) Regards Joe Pidgeon
