According to Lee, the Rashamon single for Dizzy Tiger is almost ready. Titled The Power Of Hatred, it additionaly features a Hot Roddy remix of album track Plane As Ya Honey (final confirmed tracklisting to follow). Depending on the particular artist's wishes, I want to do a series of lo-fi/electronic/beat oriented singles and ep's on 3"cdr, and release them in wage-packet envelopes, with various inserts designed by the artist. These would only be done in limited runs because of the time spent assembling the packages, and so if people want to reserve the various releases in this series, they should message or email a request to me. That's as close as the label's going to get as far as a Singles Club goes currently, and as all Dizzy Tiger releases so far have been run-off by hand anyway, no-one's going to miss out on anything for the time being. These singles would still be available to anyone who contacts us for just the odd one or two now and again, once they're coming out. Obviously, this format of release wouldn't be suitable for all the acts who want to put stuff out on the label. Something like the second Regular John ep, or a Rumiko Jr single (if there are enough songs recorded during the current sessions) would require a larger run, probably done through a pressing plant, a more striking sleeve, and probably a 5" format for the local record stores (I'm going to get onto that when there's some new cdrs ready). This is partly why I'm thinking of doing the 3"s for the less song-oriented stuff, though we've learnt never to put up firm paramaters before starting a project, so things may develop differently. Similarly to the compilation thread, any suggestions and nominations are welcome.
Oh, I came back on the train to Hastings after Lee's gig last night. He seemed to have a lot of people milling about down in the Marlborough bar unsure of what they were doing, so to make his evening easier I declined the offer to stay in his lounge, and headed up to the station instead. But I might head back to Brighton anyway, before my week-off is over, so if people want to catch up there give me a ring.

Everyone milling about went home. I ended up getting a taxi back. Bit of a fuzzy head this morning - don't mix red wine and cigars.... I'll get Seb to do a design - he's got some nice photos going. 'The Power of Hatred' looks set to be an 8 minute epic so I'll probably just squeeze on the Hot Roddy mix and either 1 or two short tracks. Will be working on the tracks over the next few weeks and will have it ready by mid September. Very much enjoyed the THX1138 Komuso set last night but everything went a bit wonky after that and I think I left my headphones behind. Oh well.....

Just been down WHSmith (where, curiously, they were playing September Girls instore) to check: for wage-packet envelopes any artwork would have to be 4"x4" maximum, though could involve several panels, or even be smaller of course. (Not as unexpected as when Thresher were playing The Times' Lundi Bleu though.)

Got an eight track cdr in the post from Rachel today, so expect her Tigersnack ep to be fairly forthcoming. Looking promising... The Crayons and The Flesh Happening also expressing interest.

I have noticed there seems to be a lot of Tiger references going on with this label. Tigersnack not being the first. Is there like a secret army of WWF officiados parading around in Hastings trying to bring justice to this beautiful animal that is slowly becoming extinct (especially now China has relaxed its laws on medicines)? Or does everyone just like the word Tiger? Personally I prefer Badger.

The Regular John ep may be called Defeat All Tigers, so not everyone likes tigers. I prefer that to badger references. Have we all heard the Bodger and Badger anecdote now? I can't even remember who told us it first.

Well I still might start up Frisky Badger records....
Don't think I do know the anecdote. Is it better than the Chuckle Brothers one?

By the Chuckle Brothers one, I assume you just mean that tabloid story from earlier this year, about the woman who had an affiar with Barry Chuckle? Or are there Chuckle Brothers anecdotes I'm not aware of? The Bodger and Badger anecdote involved someone we knew working backstage at Glastonbury, but I can't remember who. I'd quite like it if they're reading this and posted it up: it is a harmless and short tale though, so don't get excited. Thanks for the Power of Hatred info too, I'll post up the track details when I get the cd off you.

I think it's very unlikely you'll find any of us doing a label called Burnin' Beaver! Or Frisky Badger, come to that.
Was trying to recall why I used Dizzy Tiger as the name: think it was partly in homage to Paula and my lost band Tigers Say Roar! and also 'cos I thought it would be simple to come up with a cutie illustration for the label (in a Postcard style), though I never bothered trying to draw one. I think it's a bit too late to start a Blue Peter competition now.
Fierce Panda, Fat Cat, whatever...

I don't remember Lee Majors Is My Dad, that must have stayed in your head! There's one more imaginary band you've forgotten: do you remember we were going to do Tribute To Dorothy with Natasha? Gina was actually going to give us a Hangovers support slot, as far as I recall. When I told Petra this at the time, her reaction was "But you're just pissing about!" And, so we were...

Just finished the first copies of Rashamon's The Power Of Hatred ep (details as above) this afternoon, though I've gotta get down PC World or somewhere tomorrow to get a bunch more 3" cdrs so everyone can get copies by the Rashamon/Same Actor gig next weekend. Get your reservations in! (Meaning: reserve one now, not "Oh dear, I bet it's another crappy typewritten photocopier job with a random photo of Hastings in the background..." Ahem!)

I shall require one - how much do you want for p&p etc? Would you like a blanket amount to cover any future releases? Also the old verlaine web site link can go as my spiffy new site the electric morningstar one will be previewing in a couple of days. Now understand the "cute little communist" line due to realising that "The Morning Star" is marxist news paper - doh! etc. Its snowing - bugger!

And, so we were... harsh words; i must have been green with envy. LESS PISSING ABOUT IN ROCK was hardly my manifesto at the time, if you recall (cough*tinkerbell*cough). ari keeps saying he's going to make me a set of badges to reflect my stronger, less reasonable dislikes (design concept: name of disliked thing with a big red circle around and diagonal line through it). mooted so far : beetroot, pr0n, gallo's cock (the debate rages more widely than this board, my friends), ween, and now, i feel we must also consider 'pissing about in rock'.

on a side note: rita and i are still hoping to get a couple of hours together to make our 'ask me about my band', 'ask me about my club night', 'ask me about my ep', and 'ask me about my fanzine' badges in time for ATP (yes! we managed to get on to weekend 2!). preorders are welcome.

If they're in stock, I might be able to grab a Badge It! badge-maker from work (as used by The Crayons); you could have a little chalet-based industry running at ATP, with updated, totally-topical badges reflecting the progress of the weekend's entertainment...

paffy and rita both have badge-its. the thing about badge-it is the way the pin is stuck ON rather than in the back, making the badge unwieldy. i want a proper badgemaker, but they cost £60 on ebay. and that's rather too much cash to spend on smug jokes.

I'm massively fucked-off about this, but it looks like these Rashamon cds may not necessarily play in all cd-players. They work fine through all the computers I've tried them in, but the ordinary cd and dvd players I've got access to have struggled to read them, or have played them with glitches. It may just be the old equipment I've got, 'cos like I say - they work fine through the computers, but approach with caution. Grrr.

Might be able to help out on that front in the future. The Rumiko buying fest continues unabated and we now have yer state of the art cd writer in the studio. Makes "real" cds as opposed to cd-r's. I suggest buying Rufus a pint and seeing if you can use it. If that doesn't work ask if you can suck his cock, that usually works.

May just be the cdrs I was using (still Memorex, but had a blue lacquer rather than the green one which worked fine earlier in the week). Or may be down to the fact that I had to dis-assemble my parents' computer last year in order to install the cd-writer (I just attatched internal wires and crossed my fingers), and when I put it back together afterwards I had some screws left over: it's not worked properly since. Or maybe it's just bad luck. Tara suggested I post all the cdrs back to Memorex with a complaining letter that they didn't work properly, but I suspect they'd just send back a sarky letter (counter-signed by Pete Murphy) to the effect that the glitches sound like they're meant to be part of the music, and in fact improve things. Maybe I'll just write "Ltd edition V/VM remix" on the front. But they DO work on computers, and probably some cd/dvd players (ie ones that cost more than £30 in Woolworths). All Dizzy Tiger purchases are exchangeable/refundable then. Sigh: my ambitions for everyone continue to suffer under my lack of money and expertise...

#2 in the Singles series now forthcoming... I've been particularly slow with this aspect of the label really.
Details to follow.

I've pencilled the Noteherder & McCloud single into the schedule as DTMC20, as I've at least got a CD-R of the music, if not the artwork from them yet.
As a spur to get things moving, I've also added the debut release from The Monster Season as DTMC21 - Might be a tape, might be a CD-R, depending on how I record it (once I've found a recording device). EP or LP, though, featuring a first attempt on 'The Whole World's Not Turning Rotherbeat' amongst other 'songs'.
