The album is finally finished. Mixing all done, it's now gone to Gary's for mastering. Unfortunately he is gonna do it in his spare time, therefore i'm not gonna be there when he masters. I'm in his hands...pray for me please. Does anyone know a good place to get it pressed? I think i'm looking at getting 500 done.

Well, myself (vox-guitar-harp, possibly pedal steel at some point) Jake (vox-guitar) Anita (vox-piano-hammon) Joe (bass) Simon (drums) and my beloved Robert (management-gig booking-wise guy's advice-driver-bearer of camera and videocamera-sober person when everyone else is pissed-chef-general organizing duties and possibly some triangle playing on the next album)......one day it will be Ben (drums) and Pablo (bass and steel) but i dont know when. Ben is gonna move to Brighton at the end of the year so it's just Filthy Phillips we have to kidnap! Anyhow, it's going very well and we can now start booking more gigs...we have a lot lined up in Brighton, we're just waiting for the demo to be mastered

www.tunecore.comSeems like a good deal. Best get your MCPS and PRS sorted beforehand. Lead times on release are in the region of 6-8 weeks and you will need album art sorted to their spec in advance. But it is pretty straight forward and extremely cheap.

Thanks Marcus, altough i dont understand fully...how do i get my MCPS (whats that?!?!?) and PRS sorted? I thought you'd send them a bunch of cds and they'd sell it for you...so do i need to send them the songs in MP3 format and the artwork via computer and they put it in cases? Oh im lost. I hate cyberworld.

MCPS is mechanical rights ie. manufacture of cd's and downloads. MCPS will sort out licensing the right to reproduce your music to Tune Core. PRS covers performance, radio play, streaming of your music. What it means for you is another revenue stream, whether it's worth getting registered probably depends on the sort of numbers you sell. If you work the shit out of myspace you could sell a pretty decent quantity. If you are unsure about digital downloads it might be worth getting an iTunes account and buying a couple of tracks just to understand the process and the interface .All the retailers Tunecore deal with are digitally based. That is the basis of the business. They will not deal with physical copies. Convert your music to mp3 and make the artwork a jpeg at the right resolution and dimensions and upload. If you want someone to manufacture your cd's and distribute them for you then my friend, what you need, is a record company. Frankly they no longer understand the market and we are better off without them. We have access to a global market place and you can make money without the old structures. For context read: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Long_Tail

Right, i get it i think. Thanks Marcus. However, i still dont know how to sort out the PRS and the MCPS...i gather that i can do the rest by following Tunecore's instructions...

Marcus, went to this site. Do i need to join both or just the PRS? They seem to be a separate thing

Up to you, you don't have to do either. Do some research and see what suits you best.

Good news, the album is finally finished. Harvey did a good job mastering, we are going back next sunday to tweak a couple of things but apart from that it's all good. Now it's a matter of finding 700 quid to press it. Bad news, we have no band to go out and gig. Things didn't work out so it's back to me and Jake. Anita has left as she's too busy with her own stuff and life. I can't believe we can't find anybody. Everyone keeps saying we are good so why the fuck can't we get a band?!?!?!?!?!

Just an update folks: we are having our CD launch at Joogleberry in Brighton on Tuesday 29 with Sweet Sweet Lies supporting. The Hastings CD launch is at The Rooms on Sunday 4 May with Sand Rabbot (Deano and Jim) supporting. the album will be available from Tue 29 for the modest sum of 8 pounds. It will also be available on Tunecore, Itunes etc when i figure out how the fucking thing works but i recommend buying a copy at the gigs or contacting me. The artwork and package is fucking good so it's best to go for the old fashioned way of buying it in person. Appartently, according to my canadian friend Shane, some radio station from Vancouver has been playing "For a long time" almost daily!!

Alfie, haven't you got the Tune Core thing sorted yet? What are you struggling with? It seems really straight forward. Read instructions, upload songs and artwork, pick which stores to use and pay them. Piece of cake or am I missing something?
Email me if you have any questions: marcus@rumikojr.com

Just tried again, the problem is that it wont let me upload the songs because the bitrate is too low, it needs to be 320 or something. I havent got a fucking clue and hate this bloody thing! I wish i was a solo performer with a cassette machine with DIY cassetttes for sale
