...that Christmas music just makes me angry.
I've just forced myself to sit through 'At this time of year' by Craig (of Big Brother 'fame') on the tv, and I want to remove my own eyes and ears with a spoon.
Nb: The hideous cycle of Christmas music has moved on...currently, "Snow is falling all around us" and "children are playing, having fun"...
I remain unmoved.
Halp!

...I find 'Baby it's cold outside' quite sinister. Just me?

Uh, on the 'Best Christmas In The World... Ever!' cd we've been playing in the shop this week, we've had 'Baby It's Cold Outside' performed (terribly) by Tom Jones & Cerys Matthews - Never knowingly restrained...

The usual mix of the Beach Boys Christmas, the Low Christmas, the Phil Spector Christmas, and 'I was born on Christmas day' by St Etienne are OK by me. I am partial to a bit of Lt Kije too, I admit it.

After the storm-in-a-teacup fuss over Radio 1's brief censoring of 'Fairytale Of New York' this week, it was interesting on 'Top Of The Pops 2' to see a clip of Shane MacGowan and Kirsty MacColl singing it live on proper 'TOTP', around the time of it's first re-release (circa '91, courtesy of Malcolm MacLaren's 'Ghosts Of Oxford Street'), wherein one of the contentious lines was altered to: "You scumbag, you maggot, you're cheap and you're haggard" - No-one seemed to notice at the time, I guess.

...to quite enjoying Tony Soprano and The E Street Band pull off the longest pub ending in history at Glastonbury. Unbelievable.

I take that back, Neil Young's performance of Rockin in the Free Word just took the pub ending biscuit by effectively ending it 3 times and then going back into the chorus, followed by the odd experience of seeing Neil intoxicated by power as the Glastonbury crowd behave like an army of marionettes following him in some weird communal sway along. Made Brooce look like concision itself.

If you missed them both performances are available on iPlayer.

I think we'll be watching a lot of this year's Glastonbury on the i>Player, after our digibox lost almost all the BBC channels this week (we were reduced to watching stuff looping round on the Red Button).
If we get sick of Glasto '09, apparently we've got several hours of unwatched VHS of Glasto 2000 to trawl through one day. My memories of that year are still pretty good though, 'cos I was sober on antibiotics the whole time. Rock & Roll!
