The new Rumiko Jr album is to be titled Haunting The Townsfolk. We are trying to sort out a release schedule at the moment but we hope to have it available in early June. Also to be released is Dean Adams' solo album Sand Rabbit which is a stripped back collection of acoustic numbers often accompanied by drum machine and is produced by Del Vegas. The Great Western Lie, the "lost" Rumiko album, is going to be released but not in the way we first conceived, we shall be releasing the album as 2 EP's, the first of which will be released in May.
So to celebrate the conclusion of recording we shall be having a playback party in the basement. Easter Sunday from 8.00. It would be great to see you and if past years excesses are anything to go by it should be a good knees up. It is also an opportunity to hear what we've been doing in the 2 years since we finished The Great Western Lie.

Excellent, it will be nice to see you guys. Paula, sorry you are unable to attend we will send you some copies. Just don't blame me if exposing your child to our music at such a tender age leads to alcoholism later in life.

We'll be heading over to Hastings later. I bumped into Kim after work on Friday and mentioned it to him, so he may pop by early on as he's going to see Nicky Blackmarket at The Crypt. (Richard Green from Shinecello came into the shop that day too, which was good.)

Some non-urgent pre-album questions:
Has the rumikojr.com domain name expired now? If so, will we ever see the rest of Leon's graphic work for it? Did Tommy come through with the album artwork? Will there be hard copies of some sort at the album launch? Who will be hosting the downloads? What's Leia miaowing at now?

Website should be up and running in a few months depending on leon. Tommy came through like a beauty on the album artwork. There Will be hard copies on the night. Will be available for download via i-tunes and amazon. She's talking to the beetles, or something.

Yes I can confirm we still have the domain name.
I am working on the artwork for the album at the moment. The intention is a numbered limited run of 100 hard copies and iTunes release. The launch at the Monkey will include a performance of the electric tracks from Haunting The Townsfolk and some from Broken Down Whiskey Sound with the remainder being the four tracks that comprise our next EP which we start recording once we put HTTF out.
Expect a more indie rock Rumiko in the future. As we may have mentioned in conversation our working ,method has altered as Dean is reserving his song based tunes for Sandrabbit Rumiko has become a more collaborative experience with us writing together. The sound is inevitably different and more band focused.
But enough talk about future projects we are gearing up to put out the follow up to Broken Down Whiskey Sound and despite slightly different personnel I see it as very much a companion piece. So it would be great if people could make it over for the launch party, which will feature the 1st appearance of the Rumiko Jr DJ Tag Team.

As our DJ set has been reduced to 1 hour, I'm only playing one record (assuming it arrives before Friday) *skuttle*

Cheers for the preview. Any chance of a review/feature/ front cover next month?? I'm assuming there's an invisible ironic smiley in this post, otherwise ask Adam! By the way, they did ask if there was any YouTube footage I could put into the preview (they try and make the stories multimedia where possible) but as the only footage I know of is the ropey Carlisle & Rocksalts stuff I put online from Carolyn's phone, I passed on it. But if you do have any footage you feel represents the band better (now or for future use) then I can embed it on the East site.

Although I'd already mentioned to Adam about previewing last night's gig on the website, it was actually Dave Standen who independently forwarded the Rumiko mail-out to me to put online and to go into the March issue's Music Watch column (the small music news pieces that appear alongside the MySpace reviews in the mag). You know I don't really need to put in a good word for you with Adam - him and Mikey were at school together! But if you do want a larger piece in the mag, I'm sure the best thing to do is email him directly adam@eastmagazine.co.uk and CC Dave Standen (deputy editor/main feature writer) in as well dave@eastmagazine.co.uk giving them some details on why you think they should run a feature. Although I can let them know you're up for co-operating with a feature, and tell them that I think there's plenty of backstory to make it worth running something, the decisions about what goes in the mag rests entirely with them. Obviously, I think you should send them a hard copy of the album too. The office moved in the New Year, but, despite prompting, the contact details on the East website haven't been updated yet - so I'll PM you the new address. I'm sure it would help sell a feature to them if the cd is in the office, available for them to play whenever anyone chooses. As far as a cover goes, I doubt you'd get one currently, mainly 'cos all the local musical acts who've made the cover in the last couple of years have reached a level at which they've broken through with substantial national radio support or a notable record/management deal (eg: Logan Wilson, Mumm-Ra, Youngplan, capital). There's an element with the East cover, as far as I can see it, of celebrating local successes, rather than just notable local artists (as had been the case in the magazine's earlier years), so I think the responsibility lies with Rumiko (or any other local act after substantial coverage in the mag) to persuade Adam & Dave that there's enough to celebrate & highlight in the band so far (rather than just the potential for breaking through at a higher level). I'm sure you know what I mean! Personally, I'd love to see East go out on a limb and put some more local musicians on the cover more regularly, but I'm sure they've got particular marketing reasons for going with the majority of their recent cover features.
Hope this helps!
