Ooh, the Galaxie 500 Peel sessions (two of 'em) are coming out! I've got one on tape, wherein they cover Moonshot (Buffy Sainte-Marie), Submission (Sex Pistols), Final Day (Young Marble Giants) and play their own, wonderful When Will You Come Home? So I'm really glad these are coming out at last, but really there's mountains more unreleased Peel sessions which'll never see the light of day. I've got dozens on tape, along with bits and pieces of shows, and I suspect most of you lot have too. Rather than go down Woolworths for that slightly bland official tribute cd, why not donate some cash to Shelter, and then form a John Peel memorial tape club? Rather like a book club, but everyone swaps tapes and stuff. More in keeping with the spirit I reckon (oh, check out next month's Uncut for a better Peel-themed cd). Of course, there's no reason not to swap tapes etc of any other new and weird music you've encountered recently: it's a lot more personal than bloody mp3s. Er, anyway.

who was it that said 'you know when yr middle aged cos everyone new you meet reminds you of someone who already know', or somesuch...? well im clearly middle aged which rather frighteningly means that im only going to live until im about 56 or summat... yikes!!! anyway, the reason i say this is because over here theres a chap who reminds me a bit of louis, but hes gone away now... but even more frighteningly theres a guy who reminds me of the ridding, maybe not that scary you think, but this is scilly where most men are pirates, not gentle souls who tell you they spent their childhood listening to john peel and imagining the twee existence of gentle indie pop bands on the mainland!!!!!!!

Talking of doppelgangers, did I ever show you that postcard Emma Cottington and Natalie Ledger sent me from the Tate several years back? I get the feeling that I'm gonna be inventing time-travel in the future, or something. Sir Stanley Spencer - Self Portrait 1914 www.tate.org.uk/servlet/ViewWork?cgroupid=999999961&workid=13694&searchid=7509Or maybe that's just how I think I look, I don't really have the correct critical perspective. Try and get photos, Paula, for us all to judge your Scilly doubles! I always though Louis looks like the young Grahame Garden.

I recently downloaded a Peel favourite - "I Wish I Could Sprechen Sie Deutsch" by The FSK, which made the 1986 festive 50. The track also includes Peel's introroduction to song and an unusually excitable John speaking after about how great the band are.
It'd be great to get some vintage complete festive fifties on tape.

And on the subject of lookalikes, we'd like to welcome Mr Glenn Gregory of Heaven 17 to these boards, apparently. I very much expect some enterprising and well-connected label to start issuing As-heard-on-John-Peel comps at some point in the next few years: apart from borrowing from friends, I reckon the next-easiest thing to do is purchase any of the Peel biographies that came out, and use the Festive 50 listings in the back as a downloading guide. If you can find FSK, you can probably find anything...

"Alright, very well, I'll admit it's all my fault, I'm sorry OK"
Some enterprising label are putting out Th' Faith Healers sessions now!

Bored of the same old albums of alleged "John Peel" music clogging up Amazon, courtesy of whoever Universal have got the rights to at the time? Never fear, Earache righteously throw a spanner in the fake-nostalgia works...
