This may have passed everyone by but there is a new vegetarian cafe/bar/venue/recording studio/rehearsal rooms on Western Road. Named Rooms it seems to cater for the acoustic artist. The only downside is that they don't want to pay the artists in cash (strangely enough in Hastings musicians actually rely on money from gigs to pay their bills) but in exchange for studio time. Which I guess is fine but you are unlikely to see Dean there anytime soon. Rumour is Tim Hoyte is looking to do it. www.therooms.org.uk/

Western Road? Is that the Bexhill one, or is there one in Hastings I've never been down?

Oh yes, I just went off and checked my maps. Bloody hell, I'd be wary of whistling in the street down that road... At least someone's trying to bring something new to the area though. Handy for you lot anyway, except you're self-sufficient as far as studios go. Can't they even offer Deano some bar tokens or something?

Hate to be cynical but it looks like a disaster waiting to happen, vegetarian cafe ? In St Leonards? They need their fucking heads read. Greasy spoon with a pool hall beneath, now that's a viable business.
Shame really as by the looks of things it could be a nice night out, but location wise they are screwed.

Yeah, even if they were along the stretch of seafront there (Warrior Square to Royal Victoria Hotel) they'd be in with a good chance, as that strip is definitely developing. But they're taking a chance on making some opportunities for people in Western Road, and someone always has to go first if things are gonna change anywhere. As for the not paying the performers thing though, I immediately thought "Half-baked hippy notion." I'd be happy to be proved wrong too though.

I popped in The Rooms by mistake last night, when I was trying to work out what venue Jonathan was playing in (Bar Blue, as it turned out, though I'd been confused by a lengthy message he'd left me in the week, trying to clarify that he wasn't playing in the Blur Bar in Eastbourne. I didn't end up in Bar Blah again, but it was close. Can't some of these liscensees choose other colours? The spangly blue toilet seats in Bar Blue are a stroke of genius though). There was a band setting up in The Rooms anyway, and the staff were very nice even though I was a bit lost. So I think you could have a good evening out or gig there. The had a rack of free Moby cd album samplers on the bar too, which was unlikely, so you could grab one of them too. I'll probably post the full evening's report on my Blog shortly, but oh I think I've really fallen for someone. If she wants. (crosses fingers)

Just bumping this OLD thread about The Rooms (still thriving despite our initial reservations, eh?) 'cos I was just on the phone to Rob there, and he's got a few spare gig slots for January if anyone fancies playing (he even asked me) as well as a live band vacancy on New Year's Eve. 01424 713555 (There's a different new website now too, but I think it's virussey at the moment, so maybe check things out on the MySpace instead www.myspace.com/theroomscafebarstudios)(And no, I can't remember who I was referring to at the end of the previous post on this thread. Tara, probably)
