Goo Goo Ga Joob.
Word has it Woolworths have seriously considered a buy-out offer of £1.00
I've got about £3.50 in the bank! This could rescue Christmas!

None of these are particularly surprising to me, I have to say (Whittards was on the brink yesterday, and The Officer's Club is apparently having problems too...) - obviously it's bad news for the economy in general, and the people that work there in particular, but all of the chains that have gone down so far have either failed to move with the times (ie Gamleys or Woolworths), or are a bit crappy (The Officer's Club, Rosebys, MFI), or completely useless (Whittards). Not quite sure where I'm going with this really, other than...eh. If no-one really notices that, as a business, you're not there anymore, was there a lot of point to you in the first place? But obviously it sucks sweaty goat balls for the people (no longer) working in those places... Apologies if this doesn't make sense - blame the marauding cold germs...

Obviously I saw Gamleys go from the inside, but it wasn't actually a victim of the crunch the way Woolies etc are. The reason its closedown was so protracted this year was 'cos they were taking the time to pay off all their creditors & sell all the warehouse's stock before they shut. The crunch & failing to move with the times played its part (with falling profits being one reason for shutting up shop while the company still had some money for its shareholders; and it didn't help them try and sell the company on once their minds had been made up) but it was a voluntary and planned closure. Arguably, Zavvi had moved with the times too, but still couldn't survive (tied in part to the collapse of its distribution via Woolies, I gather).

I went in Brighton Woolworths on Saturday - Oh it was grim. There was barely anything left on the shelves but it was still rammed with angry bargain hunting people. They said they were open for a further three days but I bet they weren't.

Hastings and Bexhill are both due to shut in the 3rd and final wave of closures: Monday 5th Jan is technically their final day, although you'll probably see them go over the weekend.

The big Zavvi in the Churchill Centre in Brighton is in a very sorry state: empty shelves, no decoration, and hand-written NO REFUNDS signs everywhere. Won't be long now then...

Brighton Zavvi also only had leftover stock - I don't think the company's had new stock since they called in the administrators on Christmas Eve, apart from titles pre-ordered before that date.
I think Iceland have confirmed the Bexhill Woolworths purchase too. How much fun were those Biggins & Katona idents before I'm A Celebrity last year, btw? She was all over the place, total world of her own.

hi stu, nothing to do with woolies except its about toys and didnt know where else to put this... whats the lego for babies that only has one big dimple thing instead of lots of little ones to connect them together? it says duplo on one of teh bits ive got but it look s different to the duplo on the official website ...

You're right, it's not Duplo (that's for toddlers) - the simplest one for babies may be called Quatro? I'll check...

Ah, no, it's another step down from Quatro: the one-dimple stuff is the Lego Baby range, here's an exampleI don't know if it's still a current Lego range though, but we can look in the Lego shop by Churchill Square tomorrow if that helps?

I would've said the writing was on the wall when they started closing stores, to be honest. But we'll see, I suppose...
Fingers crossed, eh? x

There's a branch of The Works almost directly opposite the Sussex Stationers branch I'm in (I'd unsuccessfully applied for a couple of positions there before, ironically) - Not sure how that'll work out!
