Bloody hell, fourth Domino Records act in as many months coming to town in January, at the Brass Monkey this time: another chance for everyone to come along and see Clearlake (yay!). Reuben's djing too.

Hmm, civic pride or sell-out? I don't know Embassy Court, but yeah, it's a naff sounding thing to do. I'm gonna go along anyway, of course, Friday 27th January. Mind you, I think they may have changed direction since I last saw them (around the time of their Cedars album) from what I read in the NME, so I'm a bit unsure as to whether they'll be as great as before. That Jason Pegg, he does look Roman though doesn't he?
(oops, just corrected the date there! More Clearlake to come in The Archive too...)

Ok, according to today's Hastings Observer, Clearlake have cancelled tonight's gig at Brass Monkey, and will be playing The Crypt instead next Saturday 4th February. They'll be supporting The Crimea (who are ex-The Crocketts), with Cadence opening the bill. I just report these things.

Oh for fuck's sake: with their inablility to organise a piss-up in any of their breweries, or get any facts straight whatsoever, both www.hastingslive.com (The Crypt/Brass Monkey website) and Hastings Observer got their Clearlake info arse-about-face. Hence (according to Reuben, who was meant to dj), Clearlake played their gig as scheduled at Brass Monkey last night, no-one came, and the promoter was at a loss to work out why they had an empty bar on a Friday. I suspect the local paper just printed what the venues told them anyway, of course, so they can't really shoulder the blame. NB: Don't go down The Crypt to see Clearlake support The Crimea next weekend, they won't be there. Nice one, idiots.

Should you not really be booking these acts?!? Would not the talent be more interesting and the chance of them turning up on time more accurate?!

I'd give it a go, but no-one's ever likely to ask me! Besides, I'd probably have to compromise some of our radical independent stance (ha!) if we were going hand-in-glove with the venues: at least this way we can keep making, um, constructive comments about Brass Monkey, Crypt, Harpers et al, without it becoming awkward for everyone.
As the posters in Alpha Taxis, Robertson Street, will demonstrate: though Clearlake are billed as supporting The Crimea (not on the Crypt website anymore though) next Saturday, they'll actually be playing the Underground Theatre in Eastbourne that night (the more colourful Eastbourne posters are pinned-up right alongside the Crypt ones). So let's go there instead!

If anyone's interested in this sort of thing, The Fall have just signed to Domino (MES off-the-record interview report on The Quietus) Good move, I reckon.
