SPECTRUM is the seminal drone outfit formed by Pete "SONIC BOOM" Kember after his previous outfit, SPACEMAN 3, bit the acrimonious dust. Wideley admired throughout experimental circles, Spectrum offers a slightly more accessible entrance into the world of space exploration than some of his later work (such as Experimantal Audio Research), while retaining the heavily hypnotic, and often euphoric, Velvets vs Suicide axis of guitar-led repetition and futurist electronica.
From the inspiring stable of Rocket Recordings (see also The Heads and White Hills) comes another prime burst of visual-inducing psyche rock from THE NOTORIOUS HI-FI KILLERS. In their own words, it's "20's Jazz, 30's folk, 40's blues, 50's R'n'R, 60's psych, 70's punk, 80's electro, 90's drugs, 00's rehab, 10's future ad infinitum". They also do a great version of 13th Floor Elevators "Reverberation" !
Though appearing tonight as a stripped down 6 piece, the FLOWERS OF HELL are a trans-Atlantic rock orchestra made up of 16 or so experimental independent musicians, mixing orchestral and rock instrumentation creating and exploring the meeting points of classical and blues-based music. Started by Greg Jarvis as a studio project in 2002, people involved (current and former) include members and side players of acts such as...wait for it... the Patti Smith Group, John Cale's band, Spiritualized, Spacemen 3, British Sea Power, Bat For Lashes, Broken Social Scene, The Earlies, Guided By Voices, The Clientele, Primal Scream, Do Make Say Think, The Hidden Cameras, The Ecstasy Of Saint Theresa, Tindersticks, The Early Years, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Amongst others.
And to round it all off the mind altering G.L.O.W Kaleidoscopic Light Show will be jetted in from Lewes to tamper with slide shows, projections and various lamp based hallucinogenics.
