Before I go, remind me why the Darleks crossed the void to come to Earth? I think I was distracted when this was explained.

'Cos the Void is just, um, a void. Why not try an conquer a planet again, gotta be better than staying cooped up in a little spaceship forever!

It started broadcasting in Australia this week (beginning with The Christmas Invasion), so I'm sure it'll get to Canada soon. Did You get the Christopher Eccleston series? The dvds of the current series are being released sporadically in the UK throughout this year (these are the versions they call 'vanilla' - ie without extras): I think tomorrow sees the release of the third of five, with the box-set (plus extras) to arrive in the run-up to Christmas. You could always get yourself over to Amazon! Meanwhile: Fall fans discuss Doctor Who: invisionfree.com/forums/thefall/index.php?showtopic=9891&st=0

Stu - a few things...
1. Actually the prison ship didn't go into the void - it 'temporarily phase shifted' with the Black Dalek (noticed this on rewatching). 2. Theory is that all the Cybermen would have gone into the Void as the Cybus armour would have probably been pre made in the alt earth and would have 'void stuff'. Although I never actually saw any Cybermen go into the void - just Daleks.
My favourite episode this year was 'Doomsday' - I thought the ending was probably the highlight of TV for me this year or possibly any year. Cried again on the rewatch.
I didn't feel I'd watched the same series again - it felt more like the culmination of the 'Rose' story from last year over two series. Next year no Rose, Pete, Jackie or Mickey - the writes will have their work cut out for them!
Captain Jack will definitely be back, though!

I saw Cybermen being sucked into Torch Wood tower so into the void they went. Thanks so explaining the pre made cyber armor void stuff. Cheers

Just a few thoughts on the last episode, which I though was excellent btw. I love the daleks. And sobbed like a baby.
1. COMPLETE Philip Pullman rip off. Dust anyone?
2. How come Pete could just through and stand still even for one second to catch Rose - surely he would have been instantly sucked into the void?

For more on Philip Pullman influence, follow my link to the Fall forum's thread. As Rose said today (the one I work with, not the character), those other actors (the Tylers & Mickey) must've been a bit miffed to get written out by Billie Piper's decision to quit. Though Noel Clarke (Mickey) has done well writing and starring in that recent Kidulthood film, so is obviously well on his way up. As far as Pete Tyler's temporary transportation at the end goes, am sure the writers could have added in some line about it taking a few seconds to stabilise after jumping Universes, if they'd thought it was worth explaining. As always, though, it's Doctor Who! It doesn't have to make irrefutable sense all the way through, and rarely does!

Having rearranged my room the other night, I found my 'The Dalek Pocketbook and space travellers guide'. Such a lovely book, and a favorite of mine in childhood. Unfortunately the toddler me also took a liking to it, and there are scribbled pictures of Monsters on several pages, little did I know I was foreseeing a recent Doctor Who episode...
Zyquivilly my friends.

Carolyn, if the Doctor gets trapped in the Scribble World again, I'm blaming you! All my various Doctor Who books are reasonably intact still, as I bought the majority of them between the ages of 11 and 14. I've never even seen a copy of the Dalek book you describe though! I've got lost of second-hand (and scribbled on by previous owners) Doctor Who annuals though. Now vote in my Doctor Who poll!

Sorry, the cats (and everyone else) are gonna have to go hungry, when (courtesy of Children In Need and Noel's House Party!) we can revisit the never-to-be-released-on-video/dvd Doctor Who special 'Dimensions In Time'! Oh no! Oh yes! Part 1: youtube.com/watch?v=vX8abiZ1r08Part 2: youtube.com/watch?v=Oeuzi2X7XLY

I'm afraid I haven't read this thread, but I just felt the urge to mention that today in my lunch break I walked into East Ham purely for the sake of getting some fresh air and randomly turned left towards the station where I've always turned right, in the past, towards the "town centre" (and Greggs). Yes well this was all very interesting, in this unexplored stretch of thoroughfare lay a few pound shops, a derelict pub, another branch of Greggs, newsagents, one charity shop, one Lidl, a sporty pub and some smaller supermarkets, nothing much out of the ordinary except, bizarrely, "Who" directly opposite the station. Is it a good Doctor Who shop? I don't know because I don't really know much about it (except for a few Terence Dicks books I read when I was about 10 and Sylvester McCoy was on TV putting me off the show for life) and I'd spent too long in the Imperial Cancer shop to go in today, but maybe one day I will cross the threshhold to find out exactly what Who has to offer. Nice Daleks in the window though.

I realise that it's a Children In Need thing, and therefore necessarily dreadful, but as far as I'm concerned, everyone needs to suck Russell T. Davies's cock/bake him a nice cake/send him a thank you letter (delete as appropriate).
I don't remember it being this bad. *sob*
I'm going to bed now. If you don't see me for a while, you know why...

Oddly, despite the mixed-blessing of the Paul McGann tv-movie a few years later, someone at the BBC must still have thought they hadn't killed-off Doctor Who's chances thoroughly enough: hence the (Comic Relief?) special with Rowan Atkinson a little bit further down the line - now that WAS apalling! And, I'm afraid, available on VHS (padded out with more Dr Who-related sketches from other BBC shows). The guilty writer of the horrendously laboured skit? Step forward Stephen 'The Hollow Child'/'The Girl In The Fireplace' Moffat... No-one in Doctor Who fandom ever seems to have treated the Rowan Atkinson thing as anything other that a comedy-sketch, but there are several desperate attempts at explaining the East Enders caper within the 'proper' Doctor Who timeline. Besides, if you think that was bad, I'll lend you my copy of 'Dragonfire'... or even Sophie's one of 'The Happiness Patrol'

You've gotta play this Tom Baker blooper-roll! I doubt we'll ever see these turn up on the BBC's dvd-releases, so... youtube.com/watch?v=NubVOilRU3E(nb: Petra, if you read this thread often: I'm afraid Uncle Tom has a potty-mouth..)

Has anyone been looking at www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho this month? They've also got a daily advent calendar running: of artwork, games, downloads and even (today) a 45minute pop-up window of David Tennant, Russell T Davies and Phil Collison doing the in-vision commentary to the first episode of the 2nd Series...

During the past week, while I was off work, Old & Gold in Bexhill has been flogging a huge amount of Doctor Who VHS, which I thought might have been Paul's old ones... Paul - Carolyn messaged me to say you're selling off similar stuff at the moment via the Council computer-service. I was already gonna come online this week and say at what level my video-collection now stood at: Depending on how keen you are to sell anything off to me, I'd be interested in buying anything I don't already have (including other edited or unedited versions of those mentioned below), but that's entirely up to you, of course... In the meantime (and this includes stuff I've had since University, bits & pieces from Amazon, etc), my shelf now bends under the weight of:
An Unearthly Child (remastered) The Daleks (remastered) The Edge Of Destruction/The Pilot Episode The Aztecs The Rescue/The Romans
The Dominators The Mind Robber The Krotons The Seeds Of Death
Spearhead From Space (edited & unedited versions) The Claws Of Axos The Curse Of Peladon The Three Doctors Carnival Of Monsters The Time Warrior Death To The Daleks (unedited)
The Ark In Space (edited) The Sontaran Experiment/Genesis Of The Daleks Terror Of The Zygons (edited) Horror Of Fang Rock Planet Of Evil Pyramids Of Mars (unedited) The Deadly Assassin Talons Of Weng-Chiang Shada
Castrovalva The Visitation/Black Orchid Arc Of Infinity Mawdryn Undead The Five Doctors (remastered) The Awakening/Frontios
The Two Doctors
Dragonfire Ghost Light The Curse Of Fenric.
Nb: I've evidently not been the only person in Bexhill visiting Old & Gold recently, as loads of the videos there were sold to people other than myself... There's still a handful of copies of some of the above (and some odds & ends compilations) left...
That's my viewing covered 'til the new series starts anyway, especially if I get snowed in...
