no need to apologise for missing our set stu (you heartless bastard!) it was what you'd have expected, a noise filled, dischordant drunken mess, littered with the occasional bit in tune. But i must speak to you about this starscream nonsense, alright they look good(!), but i thought they sounded more like a cross between a prickly bush and a can of hairspray! i think their cd sounds pretty cool, but i dont think they pull it off live. maybe i'm being a little harsh, but then i'm not gettin paid to be any other way! did notice they had a roadie though (lucky fuckers!) You did miss what could be described as "the version of rome in dean's nightmares" in the soundcheck, featuring billy gorilla on drums, malt on bass, lee on keys, me on squealing guitar, and deano on vocals. if rumiko don't want to kill us after that, i think we might be safe with our version for the 7". To be honest, i think if the remaining members of rumiko had been there, we might be dead or at least castrated already! Gotta say it was a fuckin barnstormin set from the countrified bad boys, they took my heart and my balls and made them hurt! anyway, merry fuckin christmas to anyone who reads this, i hope everyone gets that scalextric they always wanted!

im sure that the vast majority of people in the world have more pressing things to do later, however, a competition seems to have suggeted itself... ben is here for christmas from london and his brother sent a card with the address: ben, c/o chris ridguard, c/o the only pub in scilly, or the one were the boat people go! and it got to him!!!!i f anyone would care to try a similar experiment then send me a post card!!!

Maybe we could try:
Paula, That drunk nurse, Scilly.
(Royal Mail haiku competition may be suggesting itself here too..)

i've got a worrying feeling that that would get to me quite easily!!!

Actually, it'd make you look pretty unprofessional (though, as any fool know, nurses are all drinkers) if you did start receiving mail like that! Can anyone remember the syllable-pattern for haiku? I'm too drunk and doubtful!

Thought I would let you know that the gig at the Smugglers tomorrow is a matinee - Dean is talking about kick off around 4.00 - then again he said that last year and nothing happened until about 9.00 so who knows?

Cheers, saw Reuben earlier and he had hear this, though when I bumped into Lee from RegJohn he didn't know either way. Will spread the word whilst we're out and about at the Gritti tonight (which, contrary to rumour, is indeed free).

hi stu. dolbers has suggested to me that a more interesting level of competition for the postal thingy might be just to send a postcard with :to, dolby's girlfriend, written on it! no mention of nures or drunkeness required, no need to get the sack! will you try it? eh, eh, please!!!
oh and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! x

Happy New Year to you too! Yeah, I'll try that (not with the Sacrifice tape though) - maybe a cheery postcard? How well known is Dolby then? Or is Scilly really THAT small? Don't try posting stuff to Hastings with a similar trick: I have enough trouble receiving fully-addressed post as it is.
Oh, and in the theme of this thread: Jonathan Martin's Katjam at Revolver tonight.

Nick & Melinda were planning on coming down to us on Sunday, after spending Saturday in London, but I'm trying to get them down here for your Smugglers evening, possibly with Seb and some others in tow. Otherwise, we'll be out from Sunday, probably down FILO. And there's a meeting in the back room of The Pig on the Sunday afternoon for anyone who's helping out with Wookie's film projects. See you Saturday if not before!

Now that Christmas/New Year/birthdays rush is over, my answer to this thread's question will mostly be: "Staying in and paying the bills." Will see you all at a few gigs, but otherwise I can spend my time this month getting things sorted at home, with the label, etc. See you soon.

It's both housemate-Anna's and Teenbeat-Tom's birthdays today, so I think we're s'posed to be out for either or both in the Old Town later. Give me a bell if you're gonna be about and wanna catch up.

British Summertime! Difficult to tell really. Rain is stopping Horse&Groom-play later, but if anyone's at a loose end I might brave the elements for a drink somewhere else. Evening all.

I'm off to London shortly for a wedding reception, followed by a night or two with Lee at Seb & Ursula's, so probably won't be online again for a little while. Everyone else down the Regular John night at Harpers I assume? Back in time for quiz at the FILO on Sunday, if anyone wants to join me, Carrie, Caroline, Tara and whoever else makes it, onto our sure-to-be-losers team. Have a good weekend!

Thinking of having a BBQ at the West Hill for my birthday (you know, lager, frisbee, undercooked meat products). Probably late afternoon on Saturday 10th. Anyone fancy it?

Sounds like a runner. Think I want to time it with the England game so we get the place to ourselves. Does anyone know what time it's on?

Crystal said she was gonna miss it 'cos of work, so, um, during the afternoon? Not sure you'd have many England suporters hanging out on the West Hill before or after the match anyway though. Just pick your post-picnic pubs with care!

My understanding from colleagues is kick-off at 2.00. My understanding from the Chris Moyles Breakfast Show is that it will be sunny. Surely they are both right?
Have a lovely time running about on the hill.
I shall be trying to avoid the football, whilst celebrating a football fan friend's birthday - hmmmm, not gonna work.

The BBC has ruled that Chris Moyles is right to use the word 'gay' as a euphemism for 'lame' (after a recent complaint about him on Radio One's Breakfast Show), though they advise more caution in him and other presenters continuing to use the word in the future. Chris Moyles is, of course, wrong! Stupid BBC. But then, I have problems with Jo Whiley's 'Rocks and Sucks' feature on Fridays too.

Can we use Fatty Fatty Can't Sing Bigot as a euphemism for Chris Moyles? And Spineless Gits Running Scared From The From The Anti-liberal Press for the BBC?

Fat Is A Feminist Issue, of course, and so arguably a social-class issue too. Though I'd have thought Moyles earns good money by comparison with average Leeds workers. Apparently he's a genuinely nice bloke, it's his radio-persona I dislike. Anyway, what are we up to later? I'm gonna pop down The Street to catch The Crayons.

Moving back to the original plot....
Later will hopefully be going to Totally Bored - Monster Bobby, Britch and Bela Emerson. Totally free, totally lovely weather and so totally gonna sit on the balcony overlooking the lanes.
Anyone who doesn't come must be gay! ;D
