Catherine Tate's acting was mostly reigned-in last night, I thought. Even Bernard Cribbins over-acted in comparison, though I did really enjoy the cheesy 'Waving from the TARDIS' bit!

We went straight out after 'Doctor Who' last night, so we didn't get to see the start of 'I'd Do Anything'. Did the Olivers sing "Ood, Glorious Ood"? On a spoddy note, I'm very much enjoying the weekly references to long-forgotten William Hartnell stories (The Romans, The Sensorites).

Best episode of the year so far tonight! I gets even better when you read all the Agatha Christie titles in the brilliant Fear Forecasters' section on the BBC website here - www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/s4/episodes/

News on executive producer (ie no spoilers ) news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7411177.stmThe new series is ok I think - I'm not a fan really but it is still keeping me watching although it nearly lost me with the rhino type thingys - they were stupid. I liked the big wasp one. It was quite scary.

Steven Moffat: Reasons To Be Cheerful -
1. Blink 2. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. 3. The Girl In The Fireplace.
Reasons To Be Miserable:
Z. The Curse Of Fatal Death. Z-. Coupling.
Probably a good move, overall.

Having been a'Goldfrapping on Saturday, we've only just watched this week's Dr Who, via the iPlayer.
Oh.My.God. The next couple of episodes are going to rock like a great big rocking thing. Can't wait!
(NB- Spoiler-phobes advised to avoid the Radio Times, this week especially...)

Actually we caught the last few minutes of 'Doctor Who Confidential' on Saturday (which I never usually watch) and they stuck a great big spoiler in at the end! The same clip has now turned up in subsequent BBC trailers for next week's episode; and closer investigation of the current Radio Times (namely the 'Next Week In RT' bit on the inside back page) also blows the whistle. You'd never get away with an 'Earthshock' these days...

Harriet Jones: "Harriet Jones, former Primer Minister"
Will they? No.....
Daleks: "Yes, we know who you are"
They did!
Brilliant!!!

How very dare you? (I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry. Couldn't resist the Catherine Tate catchphrase. Head now hanging so low that it's difficult to type...)I thought it was great, watched the majority of it with a great big shit-eating grin on my face. Am sulking about the ending though, and hoping for Russell T. to redeem himself next week... Edited to add: Good grief, someone please post something else soon- get this terrible post off the top of the page- this is the first time I've ever been ashamed of something I've put on the internet...!

Totally corny mini Dr Who episode from today's Proms (Warning: very corny indeed!) - if this link fails, I'm sure the clip will be popping on and off of YouTube over the next few days... uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KwI-V4AdGYc

More very minor local interest Dr Who thing: Confused 6th Doctor epic The Trial Of A Time Lord was partly filmed below the cliffs to the East of Brighton, and also over at Rye Harbour and Camber Sands. There's a feature on the new dvd revisiting the locations (much shots of wild birds etc) if you ever have the chance to look. Um, that's all!

i was listening to radio 5 today (at work, not for fun), they were talking about this. point 1. didn't we all know tennant was leaving? point 2. who's going to follow the great tennant as the doctor. i didn't find tennant brilliant, plausible, but not great. i really wanted them to keep catherine tates timelord, i thought she was bloody brilliant. on radio 5 they were talking about various possibilities of the lot i like the idea of david morrissey best.

Someone on one of the archers mesage boards is suggesting Tamsin Greig as either Dr or assistant. Gets my vote! That's The Archers radio soap, rather than Archers the fruity intoxicating beverage, of course (although now I wonder what an Archers - the drink - message board would read like...) Anyway, although I haven't got any preferences (I can never think of actors I actually like, until someone sys "What about..?") I'm enjoying the playground/watercooler/SU bar/whatever speculation, 'cos I don't think there's really been this level of public interest in a new Dr Who for 25 years or so.* But, apart from David Morrissey, the only other name I can think of that's been bandied about in the press for the role is James Nesbitt, though I don't think there's much truth in that. Feel free to suggest people who you really DON'T want to see get the job! [*When Peter Davison left. Because, when you think about subsequent departures: Colin Baker was sacked, which took away the possibility of a regeneration story; Sylvester McCoy had the series quietly cancelled while still in the role; Paul McGann was only ever lined-up for the TV Movie; and Christopher Eccleston left right at the start of the new series' run, before the public had taken the programme to heart again.]
