I see your point! I saw the article the other day and thought that would come in handy for some Rashamon samples. Forgot he was your uncle! I can see how that might be wierd... On an unrelated note - whats your landline number?

This Tom Baker/landline-texting business is already up & running, if anyone wants to try it out.
Also: was reading in the paper yesterday about Mark Gatiss' new story for the next series, The Idiot's Lantern... sounds like it's gonna be a good 'un!

Just gave it a go (one of the bonuses of working from home!) How very odd. Not odd in a bad way, just odd. I predict many prank calls texts over the coming weeks...

In the actual Doctor Who series: anyone read any other bits & pieces about the new series that may be worth passing on? I heard that Derek Acorah (ropey medium) is in one of the episodes; Maureen Lipman and Roger LLoyd Pack too. And Stephen Fry's written a story. Hmm, looks like the BBC Comedy Department's muscling in on the action then...

You know that noise Side-Show Bob makes when he steps on a rake?
"Eeuurgh..!" (shudder)
Oh God, no, come to think of it, it's Victor Lewis-Smith's Gay Daleks... and they weren't even funny!
[Being a huge Doctor Who fan in my youth, I'm still holding back my worst euphemisms/references. For now]

I'm assuming everyone's seen that Peter Kay is in the new season? You may not have seen the best headline on this, on the front-page of the Daily Sport:
"Dalek bread?!"
If that had been almost any other tabloid, I'd have bough it for the two-page picture special inside, but as it was the Sport I couldn't bring myself to pick it up.

Finally getting round to watching Season One again, on Michael & Caroline's dvd box-set: I thought I'd spot everything, but it was all to subtle for me! www.badwolf.org.uk

Uh, so everyone except me (well, Linda and Caroline) spotted that T.O.R.C.H.W.O.O.D. is an anagram of D.O.C.T.O.R.W.H.O. I'm sure if we started dipping into the BBC's Doctor Who boards we'd have known that ages ago, but I don't dare look.

Doctor Who action figures, new into the shop today, yay! £6.99 each for David Tennant (2 outifts), Cassandra with 3 spiders, a Slitheen, the Sycorax Leader, the Moxx of Balboon (sic), and...oh yes... Billie Piper with K9! The manufacturers haven't given away much about the new season with these toys (it's the first wave, so more to follow), except that K9 looks very battered and his side panels open out. I want one! I want all of them! I get paid for this nonsense! It makes me want to sing... "It could be Mars or Venus, France or Timbuktoo. He'll always be a friend of mine: who? Doctor Who! Doc-Tor Whoo!" [This song replaces the song I was singing at work so far this morning, which was - obscurity alert! - The Mel-O-Tones' I Walked With A Bugs Bunny Bendy Toy. A 'Randomly Sung Songs' thread might be interesting.]

Dunno about full-size, but I checked the orders earlier, and there's LOADS more Dr Who stuff on the way, which I'm fairly sure included some K9 stuff. Will mention bits & bobs as they appear in the shop: wouldn't want to spoil the suprises 'til then!

Our crappy dial-up won't play them properly, but the trailers etc for the new season have just gone up via the news pages at www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho if you're interested (which you are!)

They showed the same trailer on TV last night, 'cos Carrie had it on, but I was downstairs so I only heard it. Definately doesn't start next week, so maybe Easter?

I think I'm right about an Easter start. From tomorrow, BBC3 is repeating the whole of the last series over the subsequent 8 days (finishing the following Thursday), with a break on this Sunday for an entire Doctor Who evening (new & old documentaries, plus the Christmas special). All on digital though. This implies an Easter start for the new series, and the Radio Times due out next Tuesday to cover the Easter period is promising it's full preview, so there you have it.

For anyone who didn't pick up a newspaper this weekend (and the Sunday Observer comes with a dvd of Don't Look Now, if you need the incentive), the new series of Doctor Who starts next Saturday (15th Apr) on BBC1, 7.15-8.00pm.
As well as the aforementioned BBC3 night this evening (from 7.00pm), there's also new CBBC series starting next Thursday (13th Apr) on BBC1 at 5.00pm called Totally Doctor Who, which is a fan-show for the kids.
I'm into CBeebies! Oh, that's meant for the Fallnet, sorry.
Finally, we may have been coming-over a bit Doctor Who obsessed on these boards (just wait 'til the new series starts, spodness abounds!), but that's dwarfed by Oliver McNeil. He's built a full-size TARDIS, which is occasionally on display outside his shop at the end of George Street, in the arcade at the bottom of the West Hill lift, where Liquidelica used to be. Externally full-size, of course, I didn't check the internal dimensions...

Maybe you should - lots of little taster clips in the Dr Who Confidential doc. Especially looking forward to the catfight between Rose and SJ which they seem to be playing on (SJ - 'I used to be his companion', Rose - 'He never mentioned Sarah Jane', Dr 'Um...I'm sure I did Rose'....)
Torchwood looking more intriguing as well....

Grrr, digital viewers... No chance of even receiving a signal here in the Old Town valley. Even Doctor Who on BBC1 is gonna be kinda fuzzy. Added extra snow to The Christmas Invasion last year.

I've had an offer I can't refuse for Saturday evening, so I'm actually very likely to be out when it's on! Am sure some people are planning on videoing it for their David Tennant tape-cupboard of love, so I might have to catch up with people before going down the Basement on Sunday and watch it before I hear all about it, ta.

Yeah, if you two are thinking of taping it, that'd be really handy, ta, and I should be back in Hastings in time to catch up before the Basement on Sunday. Radio Times = 95p. Tennant's Extra! (Sorry, had to get that in before the tabloids)

Russell T Davies has better jokes. That new episode was brilliant! It's only our vast alcohol consumption this weekend that's preventing me being able to think straight and get a proper critical appraisal up here... Mind you, at least I can type today.

Where's the review? I am surprised at the lack of comments due to the excitement leading up to the new series. I'm yet to watch the full episode but what I did see seemed great. Caroline - I love that you carry mini David around with you.

Actually, he's sitting on my computer now- I just had him with me on Sunday cos we'd been to Marcus and Lisa's to watch the first episode the night before- sorry to disappoint!
He doesn't quite bend in the middle though, so is doing some kind of bizarre yoga pose at the mo, quite odd...
