To put this in context, there's fuckloads of other stuff on my computer as well, including but not limited to 5 carebears (childhood kitsch tat, how I love thee...), Buddha, a strange nodding thing that my mum bought me, and a piggy bank. Not exactly a stalkerish shrine, more a shitheap..!

I was actually not that keen on the first episode but I did have incredibly high expectations and I'm looking forward to the next two episodes a lot more (especially 3).
I guess it depends on what you prefer in a Dr Who episode. It was certainly fun but the Cassandra stuff was a bit unecessary, I thought....
I expect this season will build in a similar way to last year and by the end we'll all be much bigger obsessives than we were the year before!
As an aside but on a sci-fi theme...am well into the new Battlestar Galactica. Thats fucking great.

Lee - good call, you prefer today's episode then? Muppets, Ian Dury AND Balamory, all at once? And a past-companion reference. And lots and lots of ripping, tearing flesh and bone-crunching!
Anyone else - we're going down The FILO...

oh that was so much better and scary(although we weren't scared walking home, even though hastings was full of drunken football fans and hen nights, grrrr), barney tried to hide under the cushion i was sitting on(he gave up) and tom sort of almost forgot about the football thing, but caroline you may not forgive me as i'm still not entirely impressed with tennant. i'm sure it will come with time. i'll feel left out otherwise. he just seems to annoy me a bit.

Yep - great one. Nice slant on the Werewolf Myth - horrendous plugging of Torchwood though....
I know what you mean about Tennant. But I have a feeling him and Rose are heading for a fall towards the end of the series that will knock his cockiness on the head. And I predict by then you will have almost completely forgotten Eccleston...
Next week - SJ and K9! And more monsters! And Mickey luv!

Know what you mean, Lee- I was actually sat there hitting MYSELF on the head during the Torchwood bit, but Michael didn't feel quite as patronised...
Was verrr good otherwise, though!

I don't mind a bit of obvious story set up (wont somebody think of the children!). It's all good in my book. David Tennent is far more my idea of what the Doctor should be about than that other fella. Last nioghts episode was up there with the best of series one in my opinion

I agree with Michael: we've all read around on the subject of Torchwood etc, but for most of the viewers, particularly the younger ones, last Saturday's episode would've been one of the first clear references (unless they remembered the Christmas one thoroughly). I'm not sure Lee's predictions and feelings aren't also the result of background reading!

No...its just a feeling I have....supplemented by the feature in the Radio Times!
Adverse as I am to buying the Sun (although now I'm on Myspace I'm Murdochs bitch anyway) there is a real good offer this week. Buy a paper, take a token to Somerfields, collect a Dr Who DVD. Today its 'Rose', different episodes from Hartnell to Davison the rest of the week. Cool...

Gone and checked this offer out, and I'll sound a note of caution. The offer isn't of complete stories on dvd, just episodes. The William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton ones are actually from stories the BBC doesn't have full-copies of in their archives (The Daleks' Masterplan and The Faceless Ones - see my post above), though they may have been included on some odds & ends videos that the BBC put-out a few years ago (I've not got copies to check with), whilst the rest of the dvds in the offer are clearly marked with 'Part 1' and are otherwise available in full on video or dvd. The exception, as Lee mentions above, is today''s story, which was only 1 episode long anyway. And yeah, you have to exchange vouchers or post them off to get your copies. Hmm, soaraway...

Re: lost episodes. There's a triple-disc dvd out called Lost In Time, compiling vast amounts of the remaining pieces of the incomplete stories referred to above, including those in The Sun's offer. See www.bbcshop.com . Have I mentioned it's my birthday soon? Hee-hee.

Well that one was just brilliant....especially the Rose and SJ bitchfight banter ('I've met the Loch Ness Monster!'). So glad they didn't kill off K9 as well...he'll be back!

I always enjoy it when stories don't reveal their meanings until the final frame! Though I also reckon there's elements of last night's episode that they'll come back to later in the run.
Also, if any of you lot are still planning on abducting David Tennant, carry on: I'll do the decent thing and try and make sure Sophie Myles is well looked after in his absence. Selfless, I know.

ooh and proper hiding behind the sofa from the boy, accompanied by a detailed explanation of just why 'these cybermen aren't as scary as they were back in my day' from tom. i say fine you're right but... there is no need to rationalise it, let the kid have his fear, it's a different world now and part of the experience.

Barney can have the sticker book, of course. Those Cybermen were solid steel, how can you not be scared? I was properly thrilled!

Don't forget, there's a pull-out sticker-poster in the middle of the book too, so he's got that for his room!
Best bit about Doctor Who this week: "Track 90."
