I can't afford to come over tonight: waiting for East/Sussex Stationers pay, and got less than a tenner pay-off from JSA. Bank account and credit card also both maxed out.
Have fun though, see you sometime in April!

Hi guys, are you definitely not coming to Bobstock? Does that mean that Danielle won't be coming? Can you give me an idea of who's coming and who's not? That would be much appreciated x

Sorry dude we're playing that festival in Catsfield that Jan organises. Hayley is on the bill, so Danielle will be playing with her.
Don't think that we will get a chance to get away all weekend as Dean and Rufus are doing stage management for the festival so will be busy sweeping the wreckage of regular John's guitars from the stage and filling a brandy glass of brown M&M's for Johnny Gorilla.
Have a good one though.

No, you are thinking of Xan. This is Jan pronounced Yan (who knows perhaps even spelt Yan?), he was at school with Dean and if I recall played at Ridding as Valkyrie?

Yes, it's spelt Jan - he was in my Facebook friends last time I looked! The Valkyrie set from Ridding is mostly caught on video - now we've got a fancy DVD Recorder (for Carolyn's birthday) I can begin converting old VHS tapes to DVD-R, and ultimately post them online, so this may yet appear on YouTube, MySpace or Google Video or somewhere. Jan's dad Phil was was in The Expandies - they're in my MySpace friends if you're curious. Anyway, I was gonna mention that there's a preview on the East site for this Thursday's all-star London gig here - not written by me, though, as we were still on the train back from Somerset yesterday.

I saw Jeffrey giving P For Persia the thumbs-up online last night: How did the rest of the gig go for everyone? If there's anything particularly notable to report, I'll try and sort a story on the East site (or there's space to Comment under the preview they posted online on Monday). Was there any chance to catch any of the other acts playing in other venues as part of Stag & Dagger? NME did a few previews of the main Festival in this week's issue, although the We Are/Aren't Your Friends bit didn't get in there (although, again, Jeffrey got it into Time Out, it appears).

Can anyone spot the error in the running order here?
Oh yeaahh... If you look closely you can see that all the Hastings bands were put on after the headline act XO. Unsurprisingly all the industry suits, journo's and punters made a dash for the exit afterwards leaving us with an audience of Regular John, P for Persia, Reuben and Kim. Not even a sound man.
Nice work Jeff. You truly are a genius.

Oh and Stu the reason it didn't make the festival previews is because it wasn't part of Stag and Dagger, it just happened to take place in the same postal district and Mssrs Baker and Disaster tried to ride it's coat tails.

Jeez, the soundman fucking off is pretty piss-poor.
Sorry to hear it went quiet after XO - There's not necessarily anything wrong or unusual about sticking a load of bands on after 11, that's what ATP's been doing for years. It could have worked. Not very fair on all the bands with a 100+ mile round trip to make though.
Yeah, I saw it was billed as "off schedule" - it got it into Time Out, and could still get it mixed-up with any subsequent reviews, although that's not likely to benefit you lot (unless the P For Persia whispering campaign convinces lazy journos to pretend they were there after all, eh?)

It was never going to work as the big draw of the night was XO, he came with his fan base, the remainder of the audience were people invited to see him, which is fine and I wish him every success but it is pretty naive to think that his audience were going to stick around for our sets. That's kind of how the support band and headliner dynamic works, those who have come to see the main act have to endure whatever crap is on before, but at least the support is guaranteed an audience all be it one that maybe somewhat indifferent.

Good luck down Smugs this evening with the gig & the filming - Let me know if you want me to sound The Garden out about editing possibilities: we'll probably catch up with some of them in the next few days anyway.

For the sake of prosperity here's my Sandrabbit review referred to off topic in the Mirrors thread:
Sandrabbit at The Smugglers, Hastings, 24th April 2009
The sight of Dean Adams taking to the stage at The Smugglers is familiar to fans of Rumiko Jr but tonight the wall of amplifiers, banks of keyboards and drum kit are missing and it is clear that we are in for a very different experience. You would be forgiven for guessing that Adams solo work would be acoustic Americana so it is a surprise to see him and guitarist Jim Board pick up telecasters and plug into a number of effects pedals. The first number unveils the new modus operandi with drum machines, washes of analogue keyboard and widescreen delayed guitars cuddling up to an angular pop song. Adams is singing clearer, the cracked emotive vocal that has characterised his work to date replaced with a lighter, poppier tone blending sweetly with keyboard player Danielle's backing vocals.
The sound is reminiscent of the indie pop of the New Pornographers or They Might Be Giants, certainly referencing the former in some of the more baroque musical tricks that are pulled out of the bag, with Jim Board harmonising with Dean on some frighteningly quick runs across the fret board. Mostly Board seems content to hide his considerable talents in the service of the song, playing Pixies-style bends or leaving notes hanging to meld with the keyboards before decaying, only occasionally giving you a glimpse of the guitar flash that he is capable of.
The set seemed to be top heavy with medium tempo songs which led to one disgruntled punter leaving with the words, "I'm off to slit my wrists" (it is possible that this was a statement of intent rather than a comment on the band), however when they put their foot on the accelerator Sandrabbit produced their finest moments; the stop/start rock of closing number "If You Want It" being of particular note.
The themes of the songs indicate a songwriter at ease with himself and his place in the world. If it were the seventies Adams would be moving to Topanga Canyon to raise kids and produce weed-fogged pastoral country records. No longer the pie-eyed poet of alcoholic heartbreak instead it is to his credit that his response to emotional stability is to push into new musical territories.

Wiki entries might also be an idea.

Oh yeah, it was Last FM, as mentioned in the 'Last FM' thread.
I'm not very Wikipedia savvy (it looks rather complex), and, to be honest, it might be difficult to justify entries on much music from round here in view of their terms & conditions (not that Natalie's Box found it a problem).

Morning, Hope everyone's having a good Christmas.
My phone's playing-up, so I'm having trouble texting to find out, so what's all this I hear from Reuben about Rumiko Jr being in the Hastings Observer's Top 10 Gigs of the Year?
Which gig?
[By the way, Michael should now have a burnt CD of the first Donkey Kong EPs off of me; and Carolyn gave me some computer software for Xmas that will enable us to convert all our old vinyl & tapes to mp3, if anyone's got anything they're desperate to have in digital format.]
