Volunteers to 'be Paula' then, please?! I'm already excited! (about ATP, not by the prospect of impersonating Paula...)

Dear Customer
As a booker for All Tomorrows Parties, we thought you might be interested to know:
This year Warp Films and director Jonathan Caouette ('Tarnation') are making a film about All Tomorrow's Parties.
We are asking for the audience of ATP to participate in the film by contributing footage. We are giving the attendees a chance to share what they are seeing and doing, and fit their viewpoint into the documentary, creating a communal spirit to the production.
If you're taking a camcorder to ATP or you have a mobile phone that takes video or even photos, and you'd like to get involved, please get in touch. You can email: libby@warpfilms.com to find out more.
Everyone whose footage is used in the film will be credited on the film. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I have neither a camera-phone nor a camcorder, so Warp Films will have to be spared my 4-hour monologue entitled "How I Invented ATP." Is anyone in our chalets gonna be doing this though?

Hmph, there's been a couple of last-minute ATP cancellations (Edith Frost, Watts Prophets) already... Still, in other news, The Fall have split up on their current US tour, with the whole band bar MES & his wife flying back to Britain. This info hasn't been delayed from 1998, it's actually happened again! Makes a couple of ATP cancellations a bit more palatable, eh?

ATP Organisers seem to suffer from some kind of 'hyperactive planning disorder' where they start to plan one line up and before they finish they've started another. Weekend 1 still feels...I dunno...a little incomplete...but we'll see.
I've been trying to decide how to survive the weekend - thought it best at one point to eat only salads and drink only water but that didn't last long...Have now decided to go completely over the top on both food and alcohol consumption!
Apologies to my chalet mates in advance in case they have to call an ambulance or hearse or something for me....and also apologies to everybody I meet.

Oh, super... Nah, it'll be alright. If you don't behave, I'll just roll over and nick the duvet off your side of the sofabed during the night! And am sure the Dean/Rufus chalet will have enough booze & meds to kick-start your heart if necessary.

Favourite things about weekend one -
1. I finally went to the Camber Pool - twice. And it was fun (if a little cold). 2. Natasha Khan - can't believe I was too shy to ask for her to autograph the single. I'm thirty fucking two! 3. When 100 eyes finished. 4. It was sunny - for two days! 5. Sitting outside the chalet round a table like a big family eating mediterranean cuisine - and pot noodle. 6. Seeing Dean in the crowd - and then moving swiftly on because I drunkenly thought my luck might be in that night. 7. Services! 8. The fact I can remember most of it. 9. The fact that I didn't embarrass myself as much as I thought I would. 10. The fact I survived.
Apologies for being asleep for most of the bands but I get very tired and a lot of them were dull. To be fair. Well at least half...
Hey ho!

Highlights: 1. Mudhoney! In 'n' Out Of Grace, Touch Me I'm Sick, Sweet Young Thing Ain't Sweet No More, Hate The Police, Sonic Infusion, If I Think, When Tomorrow Hits, You Got It (Keep It Out Of My Face) - just about everything you could hope for! They were so fucking good. "Rock music gets better after 40!" they shouted. Respect! 2. Liars/Blood Brothers team-up cover of Territorial Pissings. Fuck me! 3. Mark Pickerel's special guest: Wreckless Eric, doing Whole Wide World. What the fuck?! 4. Comets On Fire's heavy echoplex action. Scrambled my brain, and I wasn't even on the 'shrooms. 5. Oneida. Drums! And "LightLightLightLightLightLightLightLight..." 6. Jandek. Not a freak show at all: a seriously able avant-garde guitarist with a Fall-like disregard for the structure of his songs. And he was drinking at the bar afterwards. 7. Everyone watching The Big Lebowski on ATP TV. Followed by the Buckshot Boys: funniest thing I've seen for months, y'all missed it though, motherfuckers. Better be on again next weekend... 8. Yes, the sunshine. 9. Weird visual effect of sky-patterns on the Camber Sands beach. Stroboscopic! 10. Colin from Edgeworld and John WIAIWYA still recognising me. Nice.
All that, and much more, and lovely chalet-mates! Blog to follow-on later in the week. My throat not healthy...

Mudhoney were great - especially when the roady had to come on stage to help them off the floor - spinal tap style.
So many highlights, not enough brain power to remember.
Night y'all

A very late ATP-relateed article in Marshlink Matters (the free newsletter of the Marshlink Community Rail Partnership), available at your local Rail Station. Basically, there's a self-congratulatory piece on the rail company getting Stagecoach to lay on extra buses for special weekends at Pontins, illustrated with a photo taken outside Rye Station of "Just some of the people waiting to travel on to Camber Sands on Friday 19th May". What a dowdy bunch!

Re: Nightmare before xmas.
Tiks selling fast. Dinosaur jr, Gang of Four, Nurse with Wound and others now confirmed.
Is there any interest out there? I'm up for it, but not quite as enthusiatically as before.

Meanwhile, the second ATP Weekend of 2007 (also in Minehead, 18th-20th May), is a split curation between the promoters and whichever groups come out top on some over-complex poll of the bands the people who buy tickets to the event want to see... I'm not sure that's logistically a very good idea at all, most-popular usually not being any mark of quality or difference. Hmm.

I think the dream is over However, I have found some fun photos from over the years - so I'm happy with that. (BTW - would be up for getting over to Minehead, but can realistically see this not happening...)

Am somewhat amused by the idea of three thousand hispsters wandering round Minehead Butlins sniffling into their cardi sleeves on the nights that they're not allowed to watch, though! And the other three thousand being herded into the venue (possible with cattle prods or sheepdogs), and firehosed out at the end of the night. I agree, Stu. It all sounds a bit...well, not fun, really.

ATP for Weekend One in May 2008 is back at Camber!! Bands listed so far include : "Ween, Sebadoh, Hot Chip, Man Man, Dirty Projectors, Pissed Jeans, Fuck Buttons, Apse, Glass Candy, Caribou, Los Campesinos and Of Montreal plus many more to be announced over the coming weeks" NOt sure that Hot Chip are really playing? Well, I don't think it really needs saying, but - I'm up for it - anyone else??!! C'mon.... make sure it doesn't move to stinky old Minehead forever... We need two more people. It's £150 each. Don't make me beg
