Katherine's djing at the Monkey (regular Friday evening Mish Mash night); I'm expecting to stay in though, as I got quite drunk out & about for my friend Crystal's birthday yesterday. But not as drunk as she did! Work was a bit of a struggle for us both today...

Um... not this weekend, but does anyone fancy seeing J. Spaceman (Spiritualized) do a bunch of acoustic songs with strings and things in Brighton? Sunday 22nd October Brighton Komedia 01273 647100. No? Just me then.

T'is very cool, although a lot of walking...if in doubt, do the truck tour rather than walking the (miles long) route.
Oh, and shield your son's eyes from the wanking monkeys. Cos they're often wanking!
Have a present for the B-boy, but will have to give it to you tomorrow and it can be a post-birthday surprise for him...

wanking monkeys?
i have had two hours sleep, i am not very happy. i think i get all confused at the house(causing me not to sleep). oh well not too long now and all my stuff will be in one house, i won't traipse around like a bag lady, and a brand new key to forget. i'm going to try and get a quick nap in before presents and adventures.

I know I got in fairly late and drunk from the Brass Monkey, but as far as I remember I went straight to bed, so hopefully I didn't keep Carrie awake by wandering around singing XTC songs, like I've done all morning. I am verrry hungover!

I enjoyed Regular John, and Gorilla, but I really don't remember much of their performance: they were on SO late! I was SO pissed! I can remember a very amped-up Hyeshin towards the end, but any other attempts I could make at remembering what songs they played would be interfered with by my broken brain. For instance: they may well have played Mexico; I can imagine they played Mexico; and I can almost remember them playing Mexico; but none of that is proof that they played Mexico.
I didn't snog anyone last night, but it was one of those evening where it felt like I'd snogged so many of the people there in the past that it didn't matter. Though, thinking about it now, I can only think of three people, so it may be more accurate to say there were many people out last night who I'd only attempted or wanted to snog in the past. Then again, I can also now only think of three... Still, better than a wanking monkey.
This morning, Barney was telling me about going to Port Lympe later, and what animals he was hoping to see. "Tigers say 'Roar!'" he told me, without prompting. That boy's psychic!

Unusually, not us this time. Apart from housemates' familial obligations, I've got a weekend in bed arranged - not to be disturbed 'til Monday morning! But will see you down Smugs beforehand for the Rumiko band...

TMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 'Fraid we're out too, Alfie. But probably not for the same reasons as Stu. Michael's working weird shifts over the weekend (and so needs his sleep)...not the ideal setting for a demolition derby! I'll probably be out at the Smugs though, so see you there. Sorry... x

TMI? I think it still looks ambiguous really. I may just be fighting-off an incoming cold! Erm, achoo, and cough, even...

Also, prior to Smugglers, it's Billy Childish and the Chatham Singers at St Mary In The Castle: 7.30pm, £7. Heard from several friends today who're up for coming to this, if anyone wants to join us? Smugglers afterwards, of course.

Billy Childish tickets available from Trinity Wholefoods and the Tourist Information Centre. I don't honestly expect it to have sold out in advance, but will pick up mine after work tonight at the Town Hall, just to make sure. Carolyn and, probably, Maya are planning to come over for it, and some of our other friends are definitely gonna be in town for it too (am slightly reluctant to say exactly who, in case people are planning on a flying visit, without feeling obliged to catch up with the rest of their friends and family!) Don't think I'll bother bringing a handful of Childish's poetry books or my Headcoats 7"s for him to sign: though I'd more tempted to take down my H2F - 'You Make Me Dance' 12", which even Damaged Goods reckon is one of the worst records ever made (An early 90's house version of Mudhoney's cover of 'You Make Me Die' - what could go wrong? Still awaiting unacknowledged lost-classic status, at any rate)

And Flying Marrows are playing up at the Beacon, on the West Hill, during the afternoon, for those of you who don't have to work (which, as we opened the shop at 10:30 this morning, doesn't include me. Unless it storms again tonight. Which looks unlikely). Got my Billy Childish tickets anyway!

Billy Childish was excellent: The Chatham Singers turned out to be a 3-piece band in very similar vein to all his other 3-piece bands, ie raw, garage-blues. Their vintage gear packed-up towards the end, but it was a blinder. Rumiko (Dean, Marcus, Rufus & Jimmy this time) took a while to lock-in together, but really hit a peak during their second set, and finished up blazing. Loads of people we know down Smugglers, only a few of us went to Billy Childish too. Everyone went to the Cloudsley Shovell gig afterwards, but I gave it a miss 'cos we'd been drinking since the early evening. Get well soon!

We are playing at Harpers on saturday, it's with Tari and Jake, whom some of you met at the Party, we also have Simon Page on drums and a yet unidentified bass player. PLEASE do come down! We are starting at 10.30 and it will be a good night! The pedal steel is out and it's free to get in!
