FILO Beer festival & quiz! Also the end of Hastings Old Town Carnival week, so may be some odd things afoot.

Miles's duo -A+M are launching their 10" album at some place in Brighton tonight (the West Hill Centre, or something like that) with the guy from Jacob's Stories and a couple of other acts playing too; It's also Jake from The Long Goodbye's birthday, so some pub drinking could be in order elsewhere in town (Alfie - if you're reading this, I'll have plenty of copies of the compilation on me, as I made loads during the week).

Trying to spread the word a little about this gig coming up in the Bourne. Should be a corker with special guest live PAs etc. we're also looking for a regional support - so if anyone knows of a suitable band, drop me a line: adam@eastmagazine.co.uk

Guys, are you going to Tom Waits Night/Simon Shaw's Birthday on Saturday at the Smugglers? We are gonna play three songs.

Post by alfie on Jan 9, 2008 14:55:16 GMT 1
I correct that: I am gonna play 3 songs with the house band, the guys are not about. Rufus/Deano/anyone else gonna do some?

Me and the dean machine are doing some.

I tought you might...good to see that at least you and Deano are still around. I never see anybody when i come to Hastings, they all seem to have disappeared. Seriously, I think in the past year I've been to Hastings so many times over the weekend etc and apart from you, Deano, and Jimmy I haven't seen a face I know, most of the time (apart from Deano's Bday)...where does everyone go these days? Or are they just staying home?

Just bad timing. My brother's emigrating and he's having a leaving party this Sat.

Us too, I'm afraid Alfie. (With the bad timing, rather than the emigrating brother...)
Michael's got some kind of throat lurgy thing going on, so he'll be staying in and keeping his germs to himself tonight, and I'll be providing strepsils and lemsip at appropriate moments...
Hope it goes well tonight for all playing though- say happy birthday to Simon for us! x

I might be back in Hastings next Saturday (19th Jan) for the Riddles/Noisepilots gig at Smugglers, if anyone else is out.

I've next weekend off and have yet to experience The Riddles so (assuming Caroline is up for it) count me in.

Jimi collared me on New Year's Day before your gig and asked if I'd review it for East: I dunno if I'm gonna, but I said I'd try and come along anyway. Isn't it Xanten's birthday do around then too?

Tom Waits night was a fucking CRACKER! The Smugs was packed and everyone played fucking brilliant. The music ended at 2.35 AM, i left at 4.30 and it was still very busy in there. Obviously, i went to bed smashed!

I'll be in Brighton: possibility of seeing Mumm-Ra at the Barfly (or even Miss Pain & Shrag at the later gig there; or MurderDisco upstairs at The Hope)... Or staying in for the evening with wine and Doctor Who dvds on my own.

Can't speak of Wet Dog or The Assassins, but Larry Pickleman is a load of antifolk oompah oompah end of the pier nonsense.

Ah, it was a good gig that Antifolk one. Pickleman was a bit oompah, but 'Go To School' is a great song, and he was the most belligerent compere I've seen outside of a comedy gig. www.antifolk.orgI tried to find Wet Dog on Myspace, as I think Petra might enjoy them, but I could only find profiles for dodgier acts with the same name (one of which had some guy from Boys Wonder in, so not them then). Thee Assassins were a Headcoats-y duo, again worth checking out. The rest of the acts were variable. I missed The Legend!'s set though.

Ok folks: Friday 23rd May: The Long Goodbye @ The Providence, Western Road, Hove. Carolyn's gonna be watching De La Soul at the Concorde 2; then we're gonna rendezvous at Hercules & Love Affair at the Spiegeltent. Could be a long night! Saturday 24th May: Eurovision-themed BBQ at our house. Dustin The Turkey got knocked out in the semis, so we'll cook him. Anything else? Sunday 25th May: Queering The Pitch at Pressure Point, featuring Dear Britch (with guests Oliva Spleen, members of Electric Soft Parade, etc), Peepholes ( www.myspace.com/wearepeepholes - a brilliant band) and We Got Band (no idea about this lot). Bank Holiday Monday 26th May: Working in the shop for me, bah!
